A Chan – CH 083
by MTL TranslationChapter 83: The Mantis Stalks the Cicada (1)
When Li Yunmo learned that he had been selected for the four-person action team, his mouth stretched from ear to ear with joy.
In the secluded private room of the restaurant, he subconsciously looked at Brother Chan first. Seeing the other party giving him a sweet and bright smile, his heart pounded. He thought, “Brother Chan really values me the most!”
Then he froze, realizing, no! The sweetheart in front of him was not Brother Chan himself, but Sister-in-law Chan, who had transmigrated!
He felt a wave of dejection and immediately turned his gaze to the girl sitting next to Sister-in-law Chan, who was holding onto the back of her chair with one hand—his real bro, Ah Chan. Zhang Jingchan also noticed his puppy-dog eyes, paused for a moment, thinking he was scared, and said coldly, “Li Yunmo, if you can do it, do it; if not, get lost.”
Li Yunmo: “…”
“Of course I can!” He said indignantly, then saw Li Weiyi punch Zhang Jingchan on the shoulder with a disapproving look, and even gave him an apologetic look. His brother even smiled.
Li Yunmo suddenly felt that he might consider changing his allegiance for the rest of his life.
Why do men always have to follow a male boss? His sister-in-law was clearly much gentler, more considerate, and more lively.
Compared to Li Yunmo’s flattered and anxious state, the other member they had recruited seemed much more mature and composed.
After they roughly explained their intentions, Zhong Yi fell silent. It wasn’t until he finished his third cup of tea that Zhong Yi spoke: “Is it really not okay to call the police?”

Li Weiyi and Zhang Jingchan remained silent.
Zhong Yi: “I understand; I’ll go with you. But for safety’s sake, I have a suggestion—just the four of us are too few; in case of a direct confrontation, we might be at a disadvantage. If you’re worried about attracting attention with too many people, I’ll find two reliable comrades to guard the perimeter…”
Zhong Yi picked up a pen from the table and drew a line on the map Zhang Jingchan had spread out earlier: “They’ll guard here. They’ve all done reconnaissance work; on one hand, they can act as sentries. On the other hand, in case of an emergency, they can rush into the factory within five minutes. Of course, it’s best if they don’t have to take action.”
Li Weiyi’s eyes lit up, and Zhang Jingchan smiled, “Okay, thank you.”
Zhong Yi glanced at the two of them again, nodded, and took out his phone’s contacts to consider potential candidates. What he didn’t say was that he knew his sister-in-law was incredibly powerful and unfathomable, but was it really appropriate to involve him in the internal power struggles of the Fuming Group?
Zhong Yi wasn’t one to overthink things, but he had at least heard some stories of wealthy families and watched a few episodes of TV dramas. His 17-year-old sister-in-law was already reaching for Fuming’s enormous assets. Although she claimed to be checking Fuming’s accounts, Zhong Yi wasn’t a simple-minded man, and he couldn’t help but overthink things. He wouldn’t be too surprised if the Fuming Group were to one day be taken over by the Li family.
Zhong Yi glanced at the unsuspecting, spirited young man beside his sister-in-law and sighed inwardly.
Well, what his sister-in-law was up to wasn’t something he could question. Fortunately, the naive young man had all the keys and authorization; the Zhang family’s own affairs weren’t illegal. All he could do was ensure their safety.
The four discussed the matter further and finalized their plan:
Zhong Yi’s two comrades would act as the first sentry and backup, disguised as diners, stationed at a farmhouse restaurant on the main road, about 300-400 meters from the gate of the Furida factory. They would promptly alert the crew to any passing vehicles.
Li Yunmo would serve as the second sentry, lying in wait at the factory gate. His role was twofold: first, to keep watch; second, as the son of Construction Director Li Jinxiong and the second-largest heir in the group, everyone knew him. In case of an emergency, he could use his father’s name to intervene.
Li Yunmo objected to this arrangement, as he also wanted to join the other three on the front lines, venturing into the Black Blood factory. However, the other three immediately rejected this, arguing that having someone at the factory gate was safer and that he wouldn’t be of much use inside. Zhong Yi had skill, Li Weiyi had physique, and Zhang Jingchan was the mastermind. Li Yunmo, however, had none of these. Night fell.
Zhong Yi was always reliable. The two comrades he’d called in to help were already seated at a roadside restaurant. Zhang Jingchan had also found a place for Li Yunmo to stay—by the fishpond thirty meters directly opposite the factory gate. A fisherman’s hat, a fishing rod, and Zhong Yi’s old military overcoat—no one would suspect a thing.
Infiltrating the factory was easier than they’d imagined. As Zhang Jingchan had expected, because the entire group had suspended production, all the workers were on leave. The entire factory was deserted, not a soul in sight. An old man at the gatehouse was engrossed in watching television.
Zhong Yi used a clever trick. He approached and asked for directions, his body obscuring their view. Li Weiyi and Zhang Jingchan seized the opportunity to slip inside.
They waited a few minutes in a dark corner before Zhong Yi reappeared from another corner—neither of them knew how he’d gotten in.
Li Weiyi couldn’t help but sigh, thinking how well she had found her brother-in-law; he was capable on the battlefield and in a shady factory.
Before them lay a factory spanning several thousand square meters. Five or six large trucks were parked on a large open space, and behind them were the dark, unlit factory buildings.
Zhang Jingchan had a map and keys. Zhong Yi quickly surveyed the yard, clearly identifying the locations of the security cameras. After a brief discussion, Zhong Yi led them through a maze of streets, avoiding the cameras, until they reached a large warehouse.
Li Weiyi felt a surge of satisfaction, as if she were being carried to victory by two experts.
Zhang Jingchan opened the warehouse door, and the three of them slowly pushed it open, creating a narrow gap for one person to pass through. Zhong Yi cautiously surveyed the surroundings, saying, “You go in; I’ll keep watch.”
Zhang Jingchan hummed in agreement; after all, Zhong Yi didn’t understand economics or finance. He led Li Weiyi inside, flashlights in hand.
The warehouse was enormous, with ceilings seven or eight meters high, filled with large pieces of machinery, both new and old. Li Weiyi and Zhang Jingchan split up. She was familiar with the assets and went straight to the inventory; Zhang Jingchan, on the other hand, searched through the ledgers.
Soon, Li Weiyi ran back and said, “This is outrageous! Several batches of old, scrapped equipment that were recorded as sold are all here. The model numbers on the machines can’t be changed, but they’re filed with a batch of new equipment.”
“Did you take pictures?”
“Yes, I did. What about you? Did you find anything?”
Zhang Jingchan shook his head. Several drawers were unlocked and empty. He said, “The ledgers have been taken.”
The two searched for a while longer when they suddenly heard someone shout outside the door, “Who’s there?” A flashlight beam flashed.
The two exchanged a glance and immediately ran to the door. Through the crack in the door, they saw a man dressed as a worker, holding a flashlight, walking towards the door.
Zhong Yi, who was guarding the door, whispered, “Don’t come out.” Then he smiled and called out, “It’s me; I’ve come to get something.”
The worker was startled and shone his flashlight in Zhong Yi’s face. Zhong Yi raised his hand to block it. The worker didn’t recognize him, but his guard had lowered considerably. He walked over and asked, “Who is it? Did you register at the door? You can’t just come in here casually now.”
Zhong Yi answered vaguely, “I registered, I registered. Isn’t that… um… the one who always sends me?”
