Chapter 103: Father’s Wish (2)
The next morning, Li Weiyi accompanied Zhang Jingchan back to Chen City.
The Li family had all moved to Xiangcheng, but the old house remained. The two of them easily unearthed a small metal box in a corner of the yard. Inside, besides a bank card, was a USB drive.
The USB drive contained extremely detailed accounts. Every single transaction, every flow of funds, and numerous fraudulent deals of the subsidiary company, Furida, which the family used to leech off Fuming, were all recorded.
Also included were the transaction records of several bank accounts under the names of Liu Ying, Cheng Chuan, and Zhang Fengming. These records clearly showed many unusually large inflows and outflows, inconsistent with their income, and indicating abnormal and irregular financial dealings with Furida.
Furthermore, there were photos of the three meeting with Furida’s management and upstream and downstream buyers.

However, the “big boss” behind the three was nowhere to be found in this evidence. That person was too well hidden, seemingly nonexistent.
This evidence was probably the limit Zhang Moyun could have produced back then. If it could be successfully handed over to the police, it would be enough to convict the three. And as he said before, the methods the police can use were different. If they investigated, that big shot might not be able to remain “invisible.”
Li Weiyi, holding the USB drive, asked, “What do we do now?”

Zhang Jingchan smiled faintly and said, “Since it’s my father’s wish, I must fulfill it for him on this timeline. Li Yunmo and I are going to Nanmupu Township in Ling County immediately to find out the relationship between Wang Ming, Liu Ying, and the nanny. You go back to Xiangcheng first and give the USB drive to Ding Chenmo. He’s from Xiangcheng; he retired and moved back to live in the city bureau compound.”
“Ding Chenmo is retired; will he be able to help?”
“I trust him. Besides, Xiangcheng City’s head of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Public Security Bureau is also surnamed Ding.”
“Huh?”
“His name is Ding Xiongwei, Ding Chenmo’s younger brother, a powerful figure in the Municipal Bureau.”
Li Weiyi laughed: “I underestimated Old Ding. With such a deep background, there’s no problem. How did you know all this?”
“In my past life, I had dinner with several leaders from the Municipal Public Security Bureau. Ding Xiongwei accompanied me.”
Li Yunmo was already on his way to meet up in Laichen City. Zhang Jingchan saw Li Weiyi off at the bus station. The two stood under the bus; it would depart in a few minutes.
Zhang Jingchan said, “I’ll have Zhong Yi pick you up at the station and go with you to deliver the USB drive. I’ll also call Ding Chenmo.”
Li Weiyi replied, “What a fuss! It’s just delivering something, a small matter. Actually, you don’t even need to call my brother-in-law; I can go by myself.”
Zhang Jingchan smiled, raised a finger, and gently tapped her cheek: “Call me when you arrive in Xiangcheng.”
“Okay.” Li Weiyi looked up at him.
Zhang Jingchan also stared at her, silent for a moment. His fingers, which had been on her cheek, moved back and grasped the back of her neck. He lowered his head and kissed her deeply. Li Weiyi’s body went limp. Only then did he end the kiss, pulling her into his arms, resting his head on her shoulder, and saying, “Be a good girl and wait for me to come back.”
—
Li Weiyi arrived in Xiangcheng in the afternoon. As soon as she exited the station, she saw Zhong Yi standing beside the car. For Li Weiyi, this was the first time she had seen him in eight years in this life. She ran over excitedly, exclaiming, “Brother-in-law!”
Zhong Yi smiled when he saw her and said, “I couldn’t believe it when I got Ah Chan’s call. Happy, right? He’s finally awake. You’ve finally made it through.”
Li Weiyi sat in the passenger seat, fastened her seatbelt, and replied, “Happy! Brother-in-law, he’s officially my boyfriend now. We…hehe…made a deal yesterday.” Her eyes and brows were full of smiles; she couldn’t wait to tell him.
Zhong Yi, of course, could see the girl’s blushing face and couldn’t help but smile, saying, “Congratulations.”
Li Weiyi: “Same to you, same to you.”
The car drove smoothly towards Ding Chenmo’s house. Zhong Yi said, “After delivering the things, come home with me for dinner. Ah Chan told me to let you stay at my place for the next few days.”
Li Weiyi said nonchalantly, “It’s okay, I’ll stay at my own place. I don’t want to be a third wheel for you and my sister.”
Zhong Yi simply said, “I’ll listen to Ah Chan.” He glanced at her again and said, “Don’t worry, as soon as he gets back, I’ll give you back to him. I promise I won’t take up a single minute of your time.”
Li Weiyi’s face flushed. Remembering his words to “be good” when she parted with Zhang Jingchan, her heart fluttered, and she no longer insisted.
Zhong Yi glanced at her. What he didn’t say was that there was a text message on his phone from Zhang Jingchan:
It read: Brother-in-law, please have Weiyi with you these next few days. Please protect her for me. Thank you.
—
When Li Weiyi saw Ding Chenmo again, he had more gray hair than eight years ago, but he was still as vigorous and healthy as ever.
Zhang Jingchan had probably already given instructions on the phone. Ding Chenmo solemnly took the USB drive without asking any questions.
Li Weiyi asked, “When will we have a result?”
Ding Chenmo glanced at her and replied, “It might take a few months.”
Li Weiyi nodded. In the next couple of days, she and Zhang Jingchan would travel back in time to change history. Logically, this timeline should cease to exist, overwritten by a new world.
But now she wondered, by then, would this timeline truly no longer exist? Would every new branching story she and Zhang Jingchan experienced truly be overwritten and disappear time and again?
Or did they simply exist in a place she could never reach again?
So, that’s why Zhang Jingchan still wanted her to submit evidence, to fulfill his father’s wish on this timeline?

Li Weiyi bowed to Ding Chenmo: “Uncle Ding, you’ve helped us every single time. You’re the most upright and steadfast policeman I’ve ever met. Thank you!”
Ding Chenmo stared at her with his sharp, eagle-like eyes. After a moment, he smiled and said, “It’s my duty. Give my regards to that kid!”
On the way back, Li Weiyi asked Zhong Yi, “Aren’t you going to ask me what I handed over to the police?”
Zhong Yi smiled and replied, “Why would I need to ask? Weiyi, it’s not just you who’s waiting. As someone who experienced that incident firsthand, I’ve always felt guilty for not protecting Ah Chan. I’ve been waiting for him to wake up because I know that as long as he wakes up, he’ll settle accounts with those people, for himself, for you, for his father, and for Fuming, and seek justice.”
Li Weiyi’s eyes instantly reddened.
So, all these years, her brother-in-law hadn’t asked anything, but he actually understood almost everything.
“Yes!” Li Weiyi nodded vigorously. “With Ah Chan here, we’ll definitely turn the tide!”
As long as Ah Chan was here. When he woke up, the sky seemed to turn bluer, and the air became fresher. Her heart also felt clear and warm. When he woke up, everyone thought they could win. Only Ah Chan could do it.
