Chapter 104: A Decisive Strike (1)

Zhang Jingchan and Li Yunmo first found Liu Ying’s old home.

The house was dilapidated and had been abandoned for many years.

Fortunately, Li Yunmo was good with words, and Zhang Jingchan was quick-witted. They quickly learned from the neighbors that Liu Ying had come to Nanmupu Township with her remarried mother.

Her stepfather always beat and scolded the mother and daughter, complaining that Liu Ying’s mother couldn’t give birth to a son. After Liu Ying graduated from university and started working, her stepfather drowned one night while drunk, and Liu Ying took her mother to live in the big city.

“Has Liu Ying come back all these years?” Zhang Jingchan asked.

The middle-aged woman, munching on sunflower seeds, looked at the handsome young man before her, her face crinkling into a wide smile. “She came back a few times a few years ago to visit her aunt. Later, her aunt moved to the county and never came back. Her aunt is also from this township; otherwise, she couldn’t have introduced her mother to this family for remarriage. But who would have thought she’d be introduced to such a beast!”

Zhang Jingchan: “A beast?”

The middle-aged woman, realizing her mistake, shook her head. “It’s hard to say, hard to say. It’s all just gossip, villagers talking nonsense.”

Li Yunmo slipped a red bill into the middle-aged woman’s hand. “Sister, what kind of talk is this?”

The middle-aged woman’s eyes darted around. “What’s your relationship with Liu Ying?”

Li Yunmo pointed at Zhang Jingchan. “She ran off with someone else and dumped my brother, and he’s still upset, so he came back to her hometown.”

Zhang Jingchan abruptly turned her head, staring at Li Yunmo with hostility.

The older woman was indignant. Such a handsome and composed young man! She slapped her thigh: “I knew Liu Ying was a little slut! Li Yunmo argued with the older woman for a few moments before leaving with Zhang Jingchan.

Once in the car, Zhang Jingchan tapped her finger on the steering wheel: “Who taught you to make up stories like that?”

This style of blatant lying was all too familiar; Li Yunmo wasn’t that quick-witted.

Li Yunmo: “Huh?”

“Liu Ying and I.” Zhang Jingchan felt disgusted just saying it.

Li Yunmo coughed lightly, his eyes darting around, but under Zhang Jingchan’s threatening gaze, he immediately surrendered: “It’s my sister-in-law…”

Zhang Jingchan knew it. Helplessly, he asked, “What did she say?”

“Let me tell you, my sister-in-law is cunning! She said she was going to the countryside to gather information. We’re both strangers, so it’ll be difficult. To accomplish it efficiently, we have to find a unique way! Brother Chan, you’re handsome and upright. If you said you were dumped by Liu Ying, people would definitely be overflowing with gossip and sympathy, and that’s why… my sister-in-law told me everything!”

Meeting Zhang Jingchan’s icy gaze, Li Yunmo awkwardly shut his mouth.

Zhang Jingchan lowered her head, held his phone in one hand, sent a text message, then tossed the phone aside and drove off.

In Xiangcheng, Li Weiyi was at her sister’s house, teaching her niece, An’an, to read, when she picked up her phone and saw:

“Since you’re so cunning, think about what you’ll do when I get back tomorrow.”

Li Weiyi: “???”

Li Weiyi: “Baby, have you lost your mind?”

She immediately received another text message from Li Yunmo: “Sister-in-law! Brother Chan knows you taught me to make up rumors about him and Liu Ying!”

Li Weiyi was exasperated: “Why did you expose me? Why didn’t you take responsibility yourself?”

Li Yunmo: “Damn, Brother Chan’s gaze is so powerful; who can resist it!”

Li Weiyi had no choice but to text Zhang Jingchan again: “Baby.”

Zhang Jingchan was driving and didn’t reply.

She texted again: “Baby, your girlfriend was wrong; your girlfriend will never do it again.”

After a long while, Zhang Jingchan replied, “I’ll be back tomorrow for oranges.”

Was he talking about oranges? Li Weiyi blushed, her heart trembling, but her reply was fearless: “How do you want to eat it? This way, or that way?”

On the other end, Zhang Jingchan had just parked his car. Seeing the text message, he raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on his lips. After a slight hesitation, he replied with one word: “Juicy.”

Li Weiyi: “!!!”

Li Weiyi: “Zhang Jingchan, you actually made a dirty joke! Are you still that excellent, abstinent CEO?”

Zhang Jingchan: “Your boyfriend just wants a glass of freshly squeezed juice? What’s going on in that little head of yours?”

Li Yunmo was shocked to see the once cool, handsome, and domineering Zhang Jingchan’s fingers flying across his phone, a smile blooming on his face, and even the tips of his ears turning red. He leaned over to look: “Sent by my sister-in-law?”

Zhang Jingchan quickly slipped the phone into his pocket.

Li Yunmo curled his lip. He’d seen it all over the years; men were all the same, all the same, forgetting their humanity for women. He could replace his older brother, but not his sister-in-law.

Thinking this, he immediately felt relieved and calm. Seeing the fierce-looking Brother Chan no longer bothered him.

Li Yunmo thought of Liu Ying and said, “I never imagined Liu Ying had such a tragic childhood. No wonder she became so twisted and vicious later.”

Zhang Jingchan said, “No matter how tragic her childhood was, she can’t use my family’s lives and others’ lives as a stepping stone to her wealth and power.”

Li Yunmo: “That’s right.”

They found Liu Ying’s aunt’s house in Ling County. Considering the close relationship between Liu Ying and her aunt’s family, they didn’t go directly to their door but first inquired with the surrounding neighbors.

The aunt’s whole family had moved to the county town from the countryside five years ago, paying in full for a large 180-square-meter house. Neither of them had a proper job. The aunt stayed at home, while the uncle did odd jobs in the county. They also had two daughters, both in school. The family had never left the county.

The aunt’s surname was Wen, and the uncle’s surname was Chen.
