    Chapter 108: The Evil Man’s Dream (2)

“Does your head still hurt?” Xu Yi asked, looking annoyed. “Did I scare you? I had no other choice but to force it. I apologize.”

Li Weiyi felt the man before her was utterly unfamiliar. The gentler he was, the more numb she felt. She asked coldly, “How is my brother-in-law? How is he?” Tears streamed down her face again.

Xu Yi glanced at her, walked over, and sat down beside the bed, but kept a distance of two people between them. Li Weiyi instinctively straightened her back and leaned back. He crossed his long legs, placed his hands on his thighs, and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. He’s your family. How could I possibly be so ruthless? It’s just that Zhong Yi is too powerful, forcing my subordinates to use guns. He wasn’t hit in any vital areas; he’ll be fine, just needing to stay in the hospital for a while.”

    He looked at her sincerely.

Li Weiyi breathed a sigh of relief.

She said, “Xu Yi, how could you do such a thing? What are you trying to do?”

He replied, “After all these years, don’t you know?”

“But this is illegal!” Li Weiyi looked at him incredulously. “Xu Yi, I know you might have acted on impulse. Someone of your status and position doesn’t need to make a mistake like this! Let me go; let me go back. As long as Zhong Yi is alright, I… I’ll pretend I know nothing; I’ll pretend those people were thugs, robbers. We’ve known each other for so many years; I won’t tell the police anything! Let me go. I know you’re not that kind of person; you just misunderstood for a moment, right?”

She looked at him expectantly and fearfully, but Xu Yi lowered his head, looking at his clasped fingers, and smiled slightly, answering, “What if I am that kind of person? What if, from the beginning, I was a crazy and ruthless person?”

His appearance terrified Li Weiyi. Her hands clenched into fists on the blanket, and she turned her head away from his gaze.

Xu Yi chuckled, his tone still gentle and soothing: “Afraid of me? You never need to be afraid of me, because I would never bear to hurt you.”

“But you’re hurting me right now!” she yelled.

He suddenly stood up, hands in his suit pockets, and walked over slowly. Li Weiyi’s hair stood on end; she retreated again and again until she bumped into the wall behind the bed. Xu Yi smiled again, standing before her, looking down at her, and said, “Only for this matter, I apologize to you. There’s no way around it. I’ve reached my limit.”

    “You’re crazy.”

He sat down beside her, wanting to take her hand, but Li Weiyi slapped his hand away. His expression remained calm, then suddenly he exerted force, pressing her shoulders and pinning her to the bed. Li Weiyi tried to kick, but he used his elbows and body to hold her down, his eyes dark and menacing. Li Weiyi struggled for a moment, knowing it was futile, and then stopped moving.

Xu Yi’s voice was slightly hoarse as he said, “You ask me what I want? I want to fall in love with you again. I want to be your boyfriend. I want to see you every morning when I wake up, and I want you to never refuse my kisses and hugs. I want you to only have me in your heart. I want to propose to you, I want to marry you, and I want to be together for a lifetime—just like we used to.”

Li Weiyi’s heart jolted, and she stared at him blankly.

He smiled sadly and said, “We were together, weren’t we? All these years, I have only some blurry fragments in my mind, but they are so vivid that they’ve haunted my dreams and tormented me for so many years. Xiao Yi, was that a past life? Or lifetimes after lifetime, were we destined to be together? But why have you remained unmoved? Such deep feelings, how could you bear to give them up? Li Weiyi, where’s your heart?”

His eyes were filled with tears, just as she had seen in her dreams, a depth of emotion that had only accumulated over many years.

He asked the same question again, asking where her heart had gone.

Li Weiyi’s heart ached; a long-buried emotion stirred within her, faintly yet powerfully.

“No, not for eternity! We can’t have eternity!” Li Weiyi’s eyes also reddened. “Only in that one life, I wronged you! But the timeline was off; we shouldn’t have been together!”

    The room suddenly fell silent.

Xu Yi’s pupils were incredibly dark and bright, and Li Weiyi’s heart skipped a beat. A chilling thought surged into her mind: Was he bluffing her? She had been tricked! He wasn’t sure at all!

Li Weiyi regretted it so much she wanted to bite her tongue off, but even his gaze changed. Li Weiyi pushed him away and sat up. He didn’t force her down anymore, quietly sitting beside her, and smiled to himself.

Li Weiyi gritted her teeth: “What are you laughing at?”

    “Happy,” he replied.

Li Weiyi immediately felt annoyed and helpless, and a guess formed in her mind: The constant time travel had probably caused a disturbance in the timeline, just like Zhang Moyun would see countless versions of himself dying in his dreams, just like she would see Zhang Jingchan’s past and some fragmented future events, and Xu Yi was probably also affected, having vague memories of his past life.

“What will it take for you to let me go?” she asked, still unwilling to give up.

“Didn’t I say?” Xu Yi smiled happily. “Once you’ve thought it through and are willing to be Mrs. Xu, we’ll finish what we didn’t do in our last life, one by one: spending every day together, you always being with me, sleeping with me, and having several children. After a long time, when your heart is settled, we’ll be like we were in our last life; I will protect you for life, and I will never be worse than anyone else.”

Li Weiyi thought, “Impossible, you’re dreaming.” A sudden image of Zhang Jingchan sitting there, head down, eating oranges, flashed through her mind, along with the image of them holding hands, foreheads touching, smiling. This made her feel even more stifled and uncomfortable.

But she dared not say anything more hurtful to provoke Xu Yi.

“Aren’t you afraid the police will find out? Find this place?” she asked.

Xu Yi smiled, got up, and walked towards the door, saying, “Rest well. There’s still a long life ahead of us. I’ll bring over some bird’s nest soup later; I know you like that.”

Li Weiyi’s heart sank. It seemed Xu Yi was confident the police wouldn’t find him.

She suddenly stood up and rushed over, grabbing his arm. He stopped, not moving.

“Are you really going to do this?” Li Weiyi’s voice held a pleading tone. “Don’t force me, okay? Xu Yi, don’t make me hate you. I know what you want, but this will only backfire.”

He looked down at her fingers, then his gaze fell on her face. He raised his hand, as if to touch her cheek, then lowered it again, saying, “Trying to coax me into letting you out? Because there’s something you have to do these next two days with Zhang Jingchan, right?”

    Li Weiyi’s face paled instantly.

Xu Yi pursed his lips, his hand finally landing on her hair, gently stroking it twice, saying, “Is it to go back to 2014, to change history again, to change everyone’s fate?”

Li Weiyi stood less than half a meter away from him, yet felt as if she were standing on a tightrope high in the sky, her heart trembling uncontrollably. His fingers slid down, touching her neck. She turned her head away, but his hand suddenly tightened, gripping her firmly, forcing her to face him.

“Xiao Yi…” Xu Yi bent slightly, his face close to hers. “But I feel this life is good. You’re already by my side. Zhang Jingchan has nothing. I could crush him with a flick of my finger. So I don’t want history to change again. I want this to be the ending.”

He gave a dry laugh, leaning down to gently kiss her cheek. She was forced to accept it, her head pressed down. But Xu Yi immediately released her and strode out.

“Wait!” Li Weiyi called out, “Were you at the Furida factory the day Zhang Jingchan had his accident?”

    Xu Yi remained silent.

Li Weiyi took a deep breath and slowly asked, “Embezzling Fuming’s assets, killing Zhang Jingchan’s parents, beating him into a vegetative state, stealing the recording pen from the hospital, tricking Li Jinxiong out of the evidence…all of this, the person behind Liu Ying manipulating everything, was it you?”

Xu Yi opened the door and left without looking back.
