Chapter 117: My Girlfriend (1)

It took You Mingxu and Yin Feng quite a bit of effort to get Li Weiyi out of the villa. In the end, You Mingxu went alone, using a diversionary tactic to lure away most of the villa’s security guards; Yin Feng, on the other hand, brazenly led Li Weiyi, unlocking locks along the way, out of the master bedroom, around the fire escape, and finally out of the villa’s main gate.

Meanwhile, when the security guards caught up with You Mingxu, they saw her and Ding Chenmo lingering outside the villa’s high walls. You Mingxu expressed her desire to visit Xu Yi again, but after the security guards reported to the butler, she was flatly refused.

The four of them returned to Ding Chenmo’s car and immediately drove to a main road 5 kilometers away from the villa before stopping.

You Mingxu said, “Li Weiyi, I’ll report to the bureau immediately. Based on the evidence you submitted to the Economic Crime Investigation Department and this recording pen, I think the bureau will immediately launch a special investigation into Xu Yi. As the victim in this murder and kidnapping case, and also a key witness, you must come back to the bureau with me immediately.”

Li Weiyi, wrapped in a thin blanket—a gift from Yin Feng—clung to a corner, her voice slightly hoarse, “I want to make a phone call first.”

Ding Chenmo nodded to You Mingxu and handed the phone to Li Weiyi.

After only three rings, the phone was answered. Zhang Jingchan’s slightly cold voice came through: “Old Ding, don’t tell me the person hasn’t been rescued yet.”

Li Weiyi smiled slightly and said, “It’s me.”

There was silence on the other end.

Li Weiyi: “Why aren’t you saying anything? You didn’t even ask if I was alright.”

You Mingxu and Ding Chenmo got out of the car at the same time. Yin Feng was still sitting upright, his hands on the seat between his legs, listening intently. You Mingxu opened his door, tugged at his collar, and he tumbled out of the car.

Li Weiyi’s eyes welled up with tears as soon as she uttered her scolding words.

Zhang Jingchan said, “I thought I was hallucinating.”

His voice was even lower and hoarser than hers, like someone who hadn’t slept well in a long time. Li Weiyi immediately said, “I’m fine.”

“Are you hungry?” Zhang Jingchan asked.

“No, the food inside is pretty good.”

His voice held a hint of amusement: “Then… are you hurt?”

Li Weiyi answered helplessly, “I fell.”

“How did you fall?”

“Climbing the ventilation duct, I’m so clumsy, I fell down, but it’s nothing serious.”

“I’ll check the wounds when we meet later.”

Li Weiyi said sullenly, “That might not be very convenient.”

“Why?”

“I hurt my butt and back.”

“…”

The phone was quiet; they could hear each other’s steady but restless breathing.

“I’m sorry,” Zhang Jingchan said.

Li Weiyi immediately sat up straight and said, “Why are you apologizing? You did everything you could. It wasn’t your fault I was kidnapped. Besides, you even brought in such powerful reinforcements. Ding Chenmo told me that if you hadn’t acted decisively, I might still be prying open the floorboards in that secret room!”

Zhang Jingchan sighed softly, “Foolish.”

Li Weiyi: “You’re the foolish one.”

“Where are you now? I’ll come pick you up.”

“They said you went to take care of something very important…”

“It’s almost done. Everything that needed to be confirmed has been confirmed. We’ll talk when we meet.”

The two agreed on a place and hung up the phone, and Li Weiyi looked up to see You Mingxu standing alone… Her hand rested on the car door, looking down at her: “You’re going to find him? Aren’t you coming back to the station with us?”

Li Weiyi: “Thank you for saving me; I’m really grateful. But he and I have very important things to do today. After we’re done… we’ll come to the police station tomorrow.”

The girl’s eyes were so clear and sincere. You Mingxu thought for a moment, then smiled and said, “Okay, I have to file a report today anyway. But you must be careful. If Xu Yi kidnaps you again, we’ll have to fight him head-on.” She paused, tapping her fingers on the car door frame, and said, “I don’t know what secrets you’re hiding, but please trust the police.”

Li Weiyi nodded vigorously.

Ding Chenmo stood quietly by the car, listening intently. After You Mingxu went to retrieve the unruly Yin Feng, he said to Li Weiyi, “You’re lying again. You two… won’t show up again tomorrow, will you?”

Li Weiyi smiled. “You understand, a white lie. Old Ding, we’ll meet again on September 11th, 2014.”

Zhang Jingchan hung up the phone and told Li Yunmo to turn around at the intersection. The black Jeep gradually disappeared from view.

Li Yunmo: “Not following?”

Zhang Jingchan: “Not following. I know where he’ll be tonight. Get out at the next intersection. You don’t need to worry about the rest.”

Li Yunmo was stunned.

Soon they reached the intersection. Li Yunmo pulled over, and Zhang Jingchan switched to the driver’s seat. Li Yunmo stood by the roadside, and Zhang Jingchan gripped the steering wheel and turned to look at him.

“You…you’re going to cycle through again?” Li Yunmo asked, his expression like that of a lost puppy, anxious and bewildered.

Zhang Jingchan nodded, looked at him for a moment, and said, “Li Yunmo, I’ll make this the last cycle and bring Uncle Li back.”

Li Yunmo sniffed.

“Thank you.”

“I’m the one who should thank you.” Zhang Jingchan smiled, the afternoon sun illuminating his face, highlighting his clear features and upright expression. “Next time we meet, you’ll be the vice president of Huicui Group again. Don’t look so pitiful.”

Li Yunmo stood there, watching the car drive away. Just as Zhang Jingchan said, once they finished rewriting again, he too would be overwritten. He squinted, gazing at the blazing sun. He’d take a few more glances at this world. Today, he’d squander all his savings and shamelessly confess his love to the most beautiful goddess he’d ever met.

After all, when he wakes up tomorrow, he’ll be a top-tier rich, handsome, and successful man again, tsk…

The car stopped downstairs at Li Weiyi’s apartment building. You Mingxu had already gone upstairs to check; it was safe, and no one was there.

Several people waited by the car. You Mingxu had asked Ding Chenmo for a cigarette earlier, but Yin Feng angrily snatched it away, broke it, and threw it in the trash. You Mingxu was quietly scolding someone, while Ding Chenmo watched the commotion with a smile, a cigarette dangling from his lips. Only Li Weiyi waited expectantly.

Li Yunmo’s car pulled up and screeched to a halt in front of them. Only Zhang Jingchan was inside.

Li Weiyi stared blankly as Zhang Jingchan unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the door, got out, locked the car, put the keys in his pocket, and looked up at her. He was still wearing the same dark gray jacket and black trousers as yesterday, his hair a little messy, with light blue stubble about to grow on his chin. He walked towards her.

Even though they hadn’t seen each other for only a day and a night, Li Weiyi’s heart was pounding. She felt too embarrassed to look at him any longer and lowered her head.

Zhang Jingchan walked to her side and naturally took her hand. He said to Ding Chenmo and the others, “Thank you so much this time! If there’s anything I can do for you in the future, I’ll do my best.”

Li Weiyi understood the weight of his promise; it wasn’t just about this life that was about to be erased but about the much longer future. Even if these policemen no longer remembered him, Zhang Jingchan, who would reclaim everything in the future, would still care about them and lend a helping hand when necessary.

You Mingxu simply smiled: “No need for that. It’s my duty. You’ll have one night. You must report to the police station tomorrow.”

Zhang Jingchan and Li Weiyi exchanged a glance. He nodded: “I’ll definitely be there tomorrow.”

Ding Chenmo sighed and looked at You Mingxu with pity.

Watching the couple go upstairs, You Mingxu, clearly having misunderstood Ding Chenmo’s earlier glance, said, “Don’t worry, I’ve sent two people, armed and protecting them 24/7. We won’t let Xu Yi succeed again.”

Ding Chenmo nodded.
