Chapter 93. Prequel 3: After Departure

Su Mi failed to accomplish the heroic feat of mutual destruction.

Before colliding with the enemy aircraft, she was relentlessly locked onto by more than ten missiles. In an instant, flames erupted like dazzling fireworks, blooming across the dim sky. Her fighter jet was the flower’s stamen that exploded in an instant, vanishing into nothingness.

More than a hundred robotic fighter jets stood silently by.

They didn’t move, and they didn’t leave.

They remained silent, waiting politely and even respectfully.

Finally, a tall and imposing figure slowly appeared amidst the billowing dust. He carried the slender woman in his arms as he entered the robot’s field of vision.

All the robotic fighters landed vertically at the same time. The cabin doors opened one after another, and one by one, silver-white robots stepped out lightly and nimbly.

They walked up to the man, lined up neatly, knelt on one knee, and lowered their metal heads, which terrified humans.

The lead robot, after a sufficiently long salute, respectfully raised its head and said, “Marshal, we have arrived.”

Meng Xicong awoke to the sound of the explosion. In his dazed state, he only saw a massive flame and his fiancée lying in the driver’s seat, her life hanging in the balance. He didn’t know where the strength or speed came from, but he instantly pulled her into his arms.

The next moment, they were already on the ground!

    However…

He looked at the robots on the ground, puzzled but not afraid: “Who are you people?” As soon as the words left his mouth, he was startled.

He wasn’t speaking Chinese; he didn’t know what language he was speaking. But the robot had just spoken that language, and he understood it.

A brilliant red light flashed briefly in his pupils.

“General, I am your adjutant—Denni,” the robot said.

Memories surged like a tidal wave, assaulting Meng Xicong’s mind.

He saw the robot marshal leading his army to victory after victory, wiping out all species on the primitive civilization planet time and time again and plundering all resources.

    He saw the marshal, on a long enough solo voyage, smiling as he discovered Earth, a primitive civilization—a feast waiting to be enjoyed;

He saw the marshal send radio waves into space, guiding a mechanical army across thousands of light-years to sweep across the planet.

He also saw that during the long, tedious wait of ten years, the marshal simply killed a child named Meng Xicong, fully simulated Meng Xicong’s body and existence, and entered a complete hibernation, waiting for his subordinates to arrive.

The team that arrived today, the Amarr, was the closest to Earth, yet it had already caused chaos and even led to the complete annihilation of his wife’s unit.

His memory had returned, and his mood returned to its familiar calm and indifference.

    only…

“Who gave you permission to attack her?”

“She was a human soldier, which is why she was attacked,” Denis quickly replied. “General, please put her down; she’s already dead. Although your power protected her body, she still couldn’t withstand the shockwave of the explosion.”

“Dead?” Meng Xicong looked down at the woman in his arms.

    She’s dead?

Denis opened his palm; it was a silver-white nameplate.

“Xing Yao Karaman Sadapchi, your name,” Denis said respectfully. “War God—your codename.”

“Your former name.” Meng Xicong took the nameplate with one hand, gently wiping it, and the symbols on the metal plate instantly disappeared. He lightly ran his fingernail across the surface, crookedly carving three neat Chinese characters stained with blood. He put it around his neck.

“From this day forward, Meng Xicong will be my eternal name.” He placed Su Mi on the ground. “Anyone who tries to harm my wife, I will kill.”

Upon hearing his words, the loyal adjutant and the general’s guards knelt down again in unison: “Marshal, we are guilty.”

    Meng Xicong suddenly laughed.

The smile of the former war god, which once inspired awe in his thousands of guards and made even the most powerful enemies tremble, now smiled with the contentment of an ordinary human man.

He stretched out his right hand and instantly plunged it into his own chest!

He tore open his own flesh, snapped his pristine bones, and mercilessly writhed his long, slender fingers within his own chest. The complete simulation of humanity sent waves of pain through his nervous system. His handsome face contorted in agony, yet his movements did not falter.

His bloodied hand finally pulled out a handful of pale blue, radiant crystals.

Madness had always been synonymous with the God of War, and his love life was no exception.

“Marshal, she’s human, not a machine!” Denis shouted. “How can an energy crystal save her? Besides, you’ve just awakened; the crystal’s energy and combat power haven’t recovered yet…”

Meng Xicong was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up at Denis: “Lieutenant, shut up.”

Meng Xicong gently opened Su Mi’s chest with his hands and slowly inserted the crystals.

“Father once said,” he whispered in her ear, “that humanity is another form of mechanical civilization. Your complex brains, thoughts, and bodies are another way of mechanical existence. This is the highest energy crystal in the universe; with it, you will surely come back to life.”

    Cold, a prolonged cold.

    Meng Xicong’s gamble paid off.

Su Mi’s body finally warmed up little by little.

He held her in his arms, a satisfied smile on his face.

Because both of them possessed energy sources, he could almost feel the quiet energy field flowing between their hearts. He knew that with just a little more time, the crystal within her body would be activated by his energy.

    She will be reborn.

“Marshal, should we transmit Earth’s exact coordinates to the army?” Denis asked from the side. “The army is already on its way.”

Meng Xicong remained silent for a moment, then gently placed her into the spaceship’s hibernation pod.

“Lieutenant, give me a warship,” he said calmly. “Who’s leading the troops this time?”

    “Your younger brother, Xing Tian.”

Meng Xicong changed into a silver-white military uniform, boarded the fastest warship, and turned to Denis, saying, “Lieutenant, cease the invasion of Earth; use your medical equipment to erase all memories of this attack from Madam’s brain… and also erase her memories of me… I will take her back to our home planet.”

He knew very well how much she valued her superiors and comrades. If she were to wake up again and learn that the people she cared about most had died because of him, she would probably never forgive him.

    Let’s just start over.

Make her believe that the Earth was destroyed, make her believe that she is a hero from another planet who saved her from the apocalypse.

    “Lieutenant, swear to me.”

    “Yes.”

“I swear in the name of Team Yama, you will protect Lady with all your power until I return and awaken her.”

“Yes, I swear in the name of the Yama team that I will protect the lady with all my energy until you return and awaken her.”

    Ten light-years away.

Hundreds of space fortresses, carrying tens of thousands of fighter jets, silently navigated the dark, cold expanse of space.

Meng Xicong sat in the combat command center of the fleet’s flagship. He knew that once accurate coordinates were obtained, the army would soon arrive on Earth. Looking at the handsome, humanoid youth opposite him, he said decisively, “Xing Tian, this mechanical descent is canceled.”

Xing Tian had just been given a human body that looked like a teenager. His fair skin was made of the softest synthetic material, and his icy blue eyes were always misty and dreamy.

He was thrilled as he finally approached his elder brother’s location on Earth. He was surprised and delighted to learn that his elder brother had arrived at the command ship ahead of him.

His elder brother is the pride of the royal family and the idol he has always studied and imitated.

    However…

“Why?” Xing Tian asked. “Brother, according to your intelligence, this planet is rich in resources. It took us so many light-years to get here.”

“I have a wife on Earth,” Meng Xicong said, enunciating each word clearly.

After a long silence, Xing Tian raised his head and slowly said, “Brother, are you joking? Wife?” How can a robot have a wife?

Meng Xicong stood up with a grim expression: “This is an order; carry it out.” He turned and strode towards the cabin door.

“I will obey the Marshal’s orders,” Xing Tian’s voice came softly from behind. “But brother… is this order so absurd? When did you start to like such a lowly civilization as humans? You are a perfect marshal! How could you have such strange thoughts?”

“Xing Tian.” Meng Xicong looked at his younger brother and suddenly smiled, “You’re wrong. Love can make a robot even more perfect.”

“No!” Xing Tian stepped forward, somewhat agitated, and grabbed Meng Xicong’s shoulders. “Brother, why would you believe in something like love? It’s just a simulation! You simulated Meng Xicong’s body, his personality, and his emotions. That’s why you thought you’d fallen in love with a human! Wake up, brother! Your love, your wife, is just a simulation! You’re a war god, brother! Do you know what you look like right now? A human man driven mad by love! But you’re a machine!”

“Shut up!” A flash of anger crossed Meng Xicong’s face as he slapped Xing Tian’s pale face hard, his tone fierce. “Even if Meng Xicong’s existence is just a simulation, my feelings for her… are not a simulation!”

Xing Tian covered his face, slowly raised his head, and looked at Meng Xicong with a dazed expression: “Big brother, you’ve got it wrong.”

Meng Xicong looked at him coldly: “Get out of my way; I need to save my wife.”

“Brother, I’m sorry. I can’t tolerate a flawed God of War; I believe the entire Mechanical Empire cannot tolerate a Marshal’s flaws either.” Xing Tian drew his laser sword and slashed down at Meng Xicong, who was caught off guard and whose crystal energy had not yet fully recovered. “You’re sick! Your programming is out of control! I can’t allow a malfunctioning Marshal to exist…”

    Three hours later.

The mechanical army, representing the most advanced civilization in the universe, abandoned its original goal after a brief pause, changed direction, and set off for another primitive civilization.

Xing Tian’s silver-white military uniform was covered in blood. He picked up a clean white handkerchief and wiped the blood from his hands. Then he slumped onto the command platform, staring blankly out the window at the deep, quiet darkness of space.

On a distant Earth, a robot’s spaceship broke through the encirclement of warships from various countries and secretly infiltrated the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean, entering a low-energy hibernation mode.

After giving a respectful military salute to the distant cosmos, the robot Dennis faithfully stood guard beside Su Mi’s hibernation pod, beginning a long wait. At that moment, he had no idea that the wait he faced would be so long—long enough for the entire Amaran team to fall into slumber, long enough for galaxies to shift and continents to change.

In the distant starry sky, at the stern of the Xingtian Fleet’s main ship, two robots carried a battered humanoid body.

“It’s unconscious. Lord Xing Tian ordered us to destroy it. How do we destroy it?”

“There’s a black hole there; let’s just throw them out of the decompression chamber.”

“Okay, throw it into the black hole.”
