Chapter 98. Thousands of Arrows Piercing the Heart

Once love takes root, it’s like wild grass finally sprouting on a wasteland, spreading out unchecked.

Once desire is unleashed, it is like a flood that overwhelms everything.

These were the sweetest and happiest days for Ling Zheng in his twenty-seven years, without fierce battles or tedious voyages. Only when the woman he loves is held in his arms is he inseparable and deeply devoted.

Every night they would whisper sweet nothings and be deeply intimate. When he woke up in the morning, he would always find her sleeping peacefully in his arms; she would cook for him, but the taste was really not to his liking. So he simply took over and cooked three dishes and a soup, which surprised and impressed her.

He smugly asked her for a reward, but she, oblivious to his charm, asked, “A reward? You’re not my subordinate; how can I reward you?” It wasn’t until he lifted her onto the table that she realized he was flirting.

When the weather was nice, she took him fishing by the nearby stream. Gazing at the murmuring water, he gradually became lost in thought, his eyes fixed on her. She, who had been as serene as a mountain, catching countless large fish, suddenly lost her composure, tossed aside her fishing rod, stood up, and walked to him: “Want to do it?”

He laughed and pulled her into his arms.

As night fell, he held her as they lay on the grass outside. Gazing at the starry sky, he casually remarked, “The starry sky here is somewhat different from the one I’ve seen in the city.”

    She remained silent.

“I can’t bear to part with you.” He stroked her long hair. “But I’m a soldier, and I have my own duties. A month has passed; the captain probably thinks I’m dead.”

“I hope you stay,” Debbie said quietly.

“I will come back to find you.”

Debbie stared at him, her words unusually stubborn and willful. “Ling Zheng, if you had to choose between our love and your responsibilities, would you choose me?”

“These two things are not contradictory,” Ling Zheng said softly. “I have two days off every month, and I will come back to see you.”

“No… if you leave, you’ll never come back,” she said calmly. “They all think you’re dead anyway, so why can’t you stay for me?”

Neither of them was in a good mood that night. Although Ling Zheng cherished her as his partner, love had always been something that came after his military duty. She, however, seemed unable to understand.

This annoyed him, but he couldn’t bring himself to be angry with her.

Ling Zheng woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. There was no one beside him.

    Where did she go?

Remembering the reluctant look in her eyes during the day, he felt a pang of heartache. He tiptoed to the door, only to hear a familiar and calm voice outside.

It was another language, one he couldn’t understand, though he had heard it a few times.

    That’s the Zerg language.

He heard Debbie’s voice, speaking in the insectoid language. Her voice was low, yet it was like a thunderclap in the silent night, resounding in his ears.

He slowly retreated back onto the bed, his heart sinking heavily.

Many things became clear at once—this desolate valley he had never heard of; her mysterious power that enabled her to save him; the sky, so different from the starry sky of Hope Planet…

Was she a traitor to humanity? Secretly colluding with the Zerg? Was that why she was able to save him and why she placed him in this desolate, uninhabited valley? Was this a Zerg planet? But how did a human gain the trust of the Zerg?

Why would she save him? How could her tenderness and affection be fake?

When Debbie returned to the room, Ling Zheng’s eyes were closed, as if he were already asleep. Debbie walked to the bedside, placed a gentle kiss on his forehead, and sighed as if talking to herself, “Ling Zheng, I love you.”

Ling Zheng, who had been on high alert, was greatly shaken by these heartfelt words. Before he could react, one hand had already involuntarily wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his arms.

    “I love you too, Debbie.”

Even if you truly are a traitor, I will still love you. Even if the price is that one day I throw you in prison, I will still love you.

This is the love of a soldier.

In the following days, Ling Zheng didn’t mention leaving at all. Debbie’s mood visibly relaxed, and she became even more gentle and attentive. Finally, the day arrived; Debbie had urgent business to attend to and had to leave for the day.

That very night, Ling Zheng fled.

The two male servants were just ordinary people; he left without even disturbing them. Now fully recovered, he moved swiftly through the night like a cheetah along the dense jungle.

As he looked up at the bright moon in the sky, he seemed to recall Debbie’s beautiful face. He also remembered the letter he had left on the table; he hoped that Debbie would see it and understand his departure.

He had no idea that he would never be able to leave this valley again in his lifetime, nor could he escape the despairing love between Debbie and him.

It’s only natural to see Zerg at the several passable entrances in the valley.

Thick limbs, red compound eyes, black hooks, and skin as rough as iron. It was larger than any insectoid he had ever seen.

He silently approached the two giant insects, holding only a sharpened boulder in his hand. With lightning speed, he plunged the boulder into the fragile neck of one insect, while his other hand drew the pistol from the insect’s waist and fired several shots, riddling the other insect to pieces.

He grabbed the gun and ran frantically through the woods. He knew the gunshot would attract others, and he had to escape as quickly as possible to have any chance of survival.

At dawn, he fled to the mouth of the valley, where he was stunned.

    Insects, countless insects.

Their burrows filled the cliffside, and in the distance on the plain, many insects were busy crawling around.

He felt a chill run down his spine, realizing that the most terrifying and disgusting thing he had ever seen in his life was what he was witnessing.

Is this really an insectoid planet?

Despite being hidden in the woods, the stench of blood emanating from him caused countless worker insects ahead to stop and look in his direction. Knowing something was wrong, he could no longer remain hidden and fled deeper into the forest.

    Gunfire gradually intensified behind me.

When Ling Zheng woke up again, his eyes were filled with a dark, stinging pain.

As soon as he thought about it, his heart sank into an abyss—a swarm of worker insects chasing after him, dense gunfire, the Zerg corpses falling behind him… and the shells bursting like fireworks in front of him, fragments shooting into his eyes like meteors, his world turned from pain to darkness.

    Blind?

He smiled bitterly to himself. He gently raised his hands to touch his eyes, but immediately a familiar pair of hands gripped them tightly.

    Debbie.

A low sob began; she was actually crying.

“Don’t cry,” he said softly. “Am I blind?”

She was silent for a moment before answering, “Yes, you can’t see anymore.” Her voice trembled slightly.

He struggled to sit up, and in the darkness, he slowly said, “Debbie, who exactly are you?”

“Do you still love me?” she asked instead of answering.

His voice trembled as he uttered words he had kept buried in his heart for so long: “Even if you are a traitor to humanity, as long as you come back to the Alliance with me, I will always love you. If you go to jail, I’ll go with you until we grow old and die together, okay?”

His response was a long silence.

After a long silence, she spoke in an extremely calm voice: “Ling Zheng, you are blind and can no longer fly fighter jets. Returning to the army would render you useless. Staying here is your best option. I will take meticulous care of you because I love you; I love you very much. Rest well; I will come to see you again in a few days.”

She loosened her grip and got up to leave. He heard her footsteps all the way to the door, then she gave a sharp, audible order: “Anyone who shot and wounded Ling Zheng, execute them all!”

“Yes,” someone answered in a muffled voice.

After that day, Ling Zheng’s world became dark and quiet.

Many days have passed, and Debbie has not returned. Only men have been left to guard Ling Zheng.

The guards had been replaced by Zerg, Ling Zheng knew. Although he couldn’t see them, the sounds of the giant Zerg moving around the room were very clear. He could also smell their scent.

The disgusting, fishy smell made him lose his appetite.

He made up his mind to have another long talk with Debbie when she came next time. Although what she said was stubborn, since the two of them truly loved each other, he didn’t believe her attitude wouldn’t waver.

Ling Zheng had no idea that Debbie had been having a terrible time these past few days because of his presence.

Bringing back a human man from the Human Alliance and keeping him in the Valley of the Kings, where only the King’s Consort could live, was enough to provoke opposition from both the military and the government. The human man escaped and killed several Zerg, yet he was not punished in any way. However, in a fit of rage, Debbie killed the most loyal Zerg warriors, causing strong dissatisfaction.

The Zerg’s reproduction is heavily reliant on the queen. The best Zerg rely on the queen for offspring. However, Debbie, having reached adulthood several days prior, has yet to mate with any of her strongest and most capable Zerg warriors. Her subjects, both loyal and opposed, are filled with resentment. The recent Ling Zheng incident has further fueled their anger.

“Your Majesty, spring has arrived. We cannot delay any longer this year.” Several army commanders stood before her simultaneously. “Otherwise, for the sake of the Zerg’s reproduction, we will have no choice but to kill that human man.”

    “Presumptuous!”

“The Fifth Army’s warplanes are ready. Even if His Majesty punishes us, they will take off and bomb that valley flat.”

This time, all the Zerg subjects believed that the Queen had acted willfully. It was her duty as Queen, the noblest and most powerful queen; how could she disregard it? How could she be infatuated with only one human man, neglecting her other loyal warriors?

“Alright, arrange the mating.” Debbie sat in her palace, finally giving in, “but I have one condition.”

    “Your Majesty, please speak.”

“I want Ling Zheng to be my king consort.”

This was the first time in many years that the Queen had given her approval. The entire Zerg army’s senior commanders were filled with unprecedented excitement. The one hundred mid-to-high-ranking commanders, who had passed physical fitness tests and possessed the best genes, moved into the palace.

After becoming intimate with Ling Zheng, Debbie began to present herself as a completely human woman in her words and actions. Initially, she insisted on maintaining her human body, enduring the reverent and excited mating with one Zerg general after another.

This undoubtedly fueled the Zerg generals’ excitement. Even the ugly Zerg could appreciate the beauty of the humanoid Debbie, with her smooth skin and supple waist.

Despite her superb physical strength and combat prowess in her human form, she still possessed the attributes of a human woman. How could she withstand such a grueling schedule? Three days later, the intense schedule finally left Debbie exhausted. On one occasion, while three highly decorated generals were simultaneously engaged in combat, she actually fainted.

When she awoke again, she was in her insect form. Her enormous body was the strongest symbol of a queen, her purple compound eyes were dim, and her many legs grabbed the three strong generals. She let out a long hiss and switched from defense to offense.

For the next seven days, she lost her humanity.

The queen, experiencing her first heat, was fierce and brutal. Exhausted Zerg warriors, some already dead, were carried out of her chamber; plump eggs were laid from her filthy body, forging the Zerg’s most formidable future.

Until none of the hundred elite Zerg warriors had the stamina to mate with the Queen again.

Debbie felt like she had slept for a very long time.

When she awoke in human form in a damp room, the captain of the guard beside her excitedly helped her up: “Your Majesty, you have created a new future for the Zerg.”

She glanced around, smelling the fishy odor, and recalled everything that had happened.

“To Wang Valley,” she said in a dry voice, “immediately.”

Very good, she has created a new generation of Zerg warriors.

She lost her fidelity to him.

The special plane arrived in Wanggu late at night.

Despite taking a quick shower on the plane, Debbie was still exhausted. She pushed open the door and turned on the light.

The room was dark. Ling Zheng got out of bed, his voice low and gentle: “Debbie?”

Debbie felt a pang of pain in her heart and almost immediately took a few steps forward but then stopped half a meter away from him.

She looked at his handsome face, which remained unchanged. Although only a dozen days had passed, it felt like a lifetime had gone by.

“You’ve finally come.” Ling Zheng’s voice was gentle. “We didn’t finish our conversation last time. I’ve thought it over. No matter what rebellious things you’ve done, I’ll pretend I didn’t hear or see them. I’ll take you away, and we’ll go back to our human planet together. I still have some savings, enough to support you for the rest of your life. Marry me, and we’ll spend the rest of our lives together, okay?”

“You’ll marry me?” Debbie asked, her voice trembling. “No matter who I am, you’ll marry me?”

“I do,” Ling Zheng said slowly. “Debbie, being with you has been the happiest time of my life. I can’t bear to part with you; I really can’t.”

Despite being blind, his hands grasped hers with remarkable precision, pulling her, still stubborn and stiff, into his arms.

This tenderness was more intense than any of their previous ones.

Ling Zheng, now blind, was overwhelmed with pent-up frustration and love for her, which he unleashed on her. She, in turn, went mad, her body entwined with his lean frame like a fairy.

It seems that both of them need to brand each other to prove that they still love each other and still belong to each other.

As an overwhelming surge of intense pleasure washed over him, Ling Zheng gripped her waist tightly, completely lost in passion.

However, the tight feeling of being enveloped suddenly disappeared, and her body abruptly slipped out of his embrace.

    “Debbie?” he asked, puzzled.

    She did not answer.

Ling Zheng heard the sound of heavy objects being moved frantically. Suddenly, an invisible sense of oppression filled the air.

He smelled the stench of the insectoid race. And Debbie’s fragrance suddenly vanished.

He reached out to grab it but bumped into something as hard as iron. Cold temperature, rough surface.

    Zerg?!

    “Debbie!” he shouted again.

    No one answered.

He couldn’t see that Debbie’s enormous body almost filled the entire room, her purple compound eyes staring blankly at his robust frame.

Large tears slid down from those compound eyes.

Debbie had already left early the next morning.

Ling Zheng lay in bed until midday before finally getting up. He walked straight to the front door. Because he was in such a hurry, he bumped into several places, but he didn’t say a word.

There was the scent of insectoids at the entrance. He knew they were the insectoids who had been guarding him for a long time; they could speak human language and were relatively friendly towards him. As long as he didn’t leave, they would meet all his needs.

He smiled at them, and regardless of whether they could see him, he asked in a normal tone, “The Queen was not in good spirits yesterday.”

The insect beside him remained silent for a moment before replying, “Your Highness has worked tirelessly for my race.”

He nodded and asked, “What has Your Highness been busy with these past few days? You’ve only come once every ten days or so.” He actually wanted to ask when she would come next.

The guard was now completely convinced that he knew Debbie’s identity, and his deep voice couldn’t hide his envy: “God bless my lord! The Queen has finally entered her heat cycle, and I heard that another hundred warriors have been sent to the palace. I really wish I had such good fortune.”

Ling Zheng’s body stiffened instantly, like a statue. He maintained his smile, nodded to the guard, and turned to go back to his room with leaden steps. Without warning, he bumped his head against the doorframe, his tall frame collapsing to the ground. His strength seemed to have been drained away; he couldn’t get up for a long time.
