    Chapter 100. Night of Victory

The year was 1632, two months after the war ended.

Sky City is the location of the Alliance Presidential Palace.

The Presidential Residence of the Yu family is brightly lit today. The private road outside the villa on the mountaintop is lined with luxury cars; on the helipad behind the mountain, there are cheetahs, vipers, insectoid spaceships, and also shadow beasts.

Today is a private banquet hosted by President Yu Mo-nian.

Two moons hung overhead, seemingly within reach. On the grass, bathed in silvery light, men in suits and military uniforms, arm in arm with elegantly made-up women, chatted and smiled quietly.

You Monian stood in the crowd. The circle around him consisted of some of the most powerful people in the entire alliance. Among them were Gu Yuqing, wearing a lake-blue military uniform said to be from ancient times; her eyes, more beautiful than a woman’s, always seemed to hold a smile. Debbie might not have been the most beautiful woman in the room, but she was certainly the most captivating, her stunning face and bright, clear eyes making her stand out even more among the group of men. Jane Mu’an, who, although said to have just forcibly relinquished his command position to Lian Duo, over forty years old, remained a powerful figure in the mercenary group. And Xing Yi, who, unlike his appearance during the occupation, now had a different body but still retained a profound demeanor and sharp gaze. Finally, there was Meng Xicong. Today, he was wearing a gold and black marshal’s uniform, his calm and handsome face showing as he spoke quietly with Xing Qilin beside him. Suddenly, he looked up and turned to look in another direction.

What was he looking at? You Monian couldn’t help but look in that direction as well.

The others were equally perceptive. Although they were still talking and smiling, their gazes, seemingly unintentionally, were all directed in that one direction.

There is only one answer. Meng Xicong is looking at Su Mi.

At the entrance to the lawn, beside a strip of tall green landscaping plants, stood a woman with long, flowing black hair like silk. Her long black dress hugged her shapely figure, giving her a serene and beautiful complexion. Her face, slightly raised, was lightly made up, her eyes as pure and captivating as ink. She glanced around, seemingly searching for something. Meng Xicong, meanwhile, strode over to her.

You Monian suddenly remembered that day several years ago. That day, he took office as mayor of Hope City, and Meng Xicong brought Su Mi to the banquet. For some reason, they left a deep impression on him that night. The lawless and tyrannical head of the public security bureau, who seized everything by force, and the delicate, timid, and lonely woman seemed incongruous no matter how you looked at them. Unexpectedly, after years of war and upheaval, they were still together. This time, however, she was much more serene and at ease than before; he, on the other hand, seemed like a completely different person, eagerly showering her with care and affection.

Besides You Monian, several other powerful figures were also watching the two. When they saw Meng Xicong, he almost strode over and stopped in front of Su Mi. Su Mi turned her head and saw him; the two exchanged a silent smile. He gently put his arm around her waist, calm and collected; she took his arm, smiling radiantly.

For a moment, everyone on the side fell silent.

These were the two busiest months for everyone. Peaceful coexistence among different races is easier said than done. The already fractured public sentiment and the division and struggle for interests—none of them are easy to deal with; while maintaining stability, each wants to secure a larger share for their own race. Of course, strength represents everything. Therefore, the various laws and secret agreements that were finally passed were basically fair and reasonable. Now that there is finally some free time, You Monian is holding a banquet to celebrate his victory.

With all the military and political dignitaries present, the banquet officially began.

The bigwigs sat at a table in the inner room. Unlike the hustle and bustle outside, it was much quieter here. Su Mi sat to Meng Xicong’s left, looking slightly nervous.

Xing Yi sat directly opposite her. Although his appearance had been changed and his memories supposedly erased, the occasional intense glances he cast at her made her uneasy. But knowing he couldn’t possibly remember her, Su Mi remained composed. However, Xing Yi didn’t seem to notice her. His gaze towards her held only the politeness of someone meeting for the first time.

After You Monian gave his toast, Gu Yuqing glanced at the table laden with delicacies and said with a sinister look, “Old Jian, you didn’t poison me again, did you?” Jian Mu’an laughed heartily: “Then do you dare to eat it?” You Monian smiled and said, “Marshal Gu can eat with peace of mind. I will take responsibility if anything goes wrong.” Su Mi couldn’t help but laugh. Gu Yuqing took a big bite with her chopsticks, but her eyes were like knives as she looked at Su Mi: “Sister-in-law, how can you bear to laugh at me? I was the one who brought you back to the Alliance from the Mechanical Guard, and you conspired with your husband to plot against me.” Su Mi didn’t know about the poisoning that day, but after hearing him say that, she chuckled: “I support whatever he does.” Everyone laughed. Meng Xicong stretched out his long arm and put it on the back of Su Mi’s chair, his dark eyes smiling even more.

“The Mechanical Guards?” Xing Yi suddenly asked, “What’s that all about?”

An awkward silence fell over the room. Gu Yuqing and Meng Xicong exchanged a glance and laughed. “Haha, it’s all a misunderstanding; let’s not talk about it anymore.” Qilin glanced at Meng Xicong, indicating that he would find a reason to dispel Xing Yi’s doubts later.

None of these people were reserved or pretentious, and the meal went smoothly and harmoniously.

After dinner, music started, and the dance began.

The group walked into the outer hall, where dignitaries from all sides were already smiling and waiting. You Monian and his wife danced the first opening dance, winning a round of applause. Afterwards, everyone became more lively.

Meng Xicong, carrying Su Mi, leisurely glided onto the dance floor.

The soft, bright light illuminated Su Mi’s exquisitely beautiful face, making it hard for Meng Xicong to look away. His dark eyes remained fixed on her silently, oblivious to the stares of others, occasionally placing a light kiss on her cheek and red lips.

With Meng Xicong around, all the other musicians were just background figures to Su Mi. She was held tightly in his arms, swaying gently in the crowd, chatting casually about how their son had been able to stand up by himself while holding onto the sofa these past few days and how much he ate each day, which only made Meng Xicong smile gently.

“Do you remember the first time we danced?” he asked. “I remember.” How could Su Mi not remember? At You Monian’s ball back then, the two of them did not dance; instead, at the celebration banquet for Su Mi and the others, she danced with him, and he kissed her passionately in front of everyone. “I was the one who invited you to dance,” Su Mi said with a smile. “You were very good at impersonating Shang Zheng back then.” Meng Xicong remained silent.

That was at a joint dance party between a science and technology university and a military academy. He hadn’t planned to go. But when he saw Su Mi stop him on the way the day before and throw him a note with the time and place of the ball written on it, he inexplicably found himself wearing a brand new shirt. Then, in the second stadium, which served as a temporary dance floor at the University of Science and Technology, he saw Su Mi in her graceful military uniform dancing with one dashing military academy boy after another; even many people from the university paid close attention to this female military academy student with a bright smile. On that very day, he suddenly realized—watching her dance with other boys made him very uncomfortable. She was so radiant and lovely; she deserved to belong only to him. His mind was made up just like that. At that time, Su Mi, who was straightforward but actually shy, probably didn’t know that once Meng Xicong, who seemed cold and reserved, made up his mind, it would be difficult for her to go back on her word. Thinking of this, Meng Xicong smiled slightly and kissed her forehead: “Yes, it was you who took the initiative.”

The couple danced many dances before Meng Xicong and Jian Mu’an walked away to chat with several powerful entrepreneurs. Just as Su Mi was about to return to her seat, Gu Yuqing walked up to her with a smile and gave her a very courteous bow. Su Mi smiled and took his hand, the two sliding onto the dance floor, attracting the attention of many. Su Mi hadn’t expected that after a few words, Gu Yuqing would subtly inquire about Rebecca. It turned out that a month ago, while inspecting the base, he had encountered Rebecca treating a human soldier. Because they had never met before, he had been verbally abused by Rebecca for disturbing the treatment. Finally, she revealed a little information about Rebecca, sending the somewhat unwilling Gu Yuqing away. You Monian then approached. The two were old friends, and this meeting was filled with emotion. They chatted for a while and ended up dancing twice.

Then came Qilin. He came to apologize to her. His indecisiveness between Xing Yi and Meng Xicong that day had been a lingering regret for him. Su Mi still felt more gratitude towards him—after all, without him, Meng Xicong would have died long ago.

As Qilin left, Su Mi glanced up and saw Meng Xicong standing among a group of people outside the dance floor, seemingly looking in her direction. Even from such a distance, she could almost feel his intense gaze. This man’s very presence exudes a sense of pressure.

Just then, a tall figure appeared in front of him. Xing Yi.

“Madam, am I honored?” A deep voice, a fixed gaze.

Su Mi couldn’t help but glance in Meng Xicong’s direction again, and clearly saw him move slightly, about to walk over.

“I’m sorry, I’m tired.” Su Mi looked at Xing Yi firmly. “I don’t want to jump anymore.”

Xing Yi gave a regretful look, then turned and left.

Su Mi took a deep breath and returned to her seat.

Debbie, standing beside her, quietly said, “He deserved it.”

    Su Mi remained silent.

A few minutes later, Meng Xicong left the group of dignitaries and walked up to Su Mi.

“Are you alright?” he asked her in a low voice.

“It’s alright,” Su Mi quickly said. “We weren’t dancing.”

Debbie, standing to the side, laughed: “It would be a chance to see Meng Xicong’s exasperated expression.”

Debbie’s words were an exaggeration. He wasn’t angry at all; his expression was calm. His dark eyes were fixed on Su Mi, as if she were the only one in his world.

Meng Xicong glanced at Debbie indifferently, then said to Su Mi in a deep voice, “Wait for me a little longer.”

Less than half an hour later, when the ball was in full swing, Meng Xicong stood tall and elegant in front of Su Mi, holding their coats: “Let’s go.”

“Is this appropriate?” Su Mi was a little surprised. It was only a little past nine o’clock, and he, such an important person, was leaving early.

    “I know what I’m doing.”

Guided by a servant, the two arrived at another small villa on the mountaintop.

This is also a property under the You family’s name. Tonight, it’s arranged for VIPs to stay. The entire top floor is occupied only by the two of them. After returning to their room and taking a shower, Meng Xicong, who had drunk a little, didn’t carry her to bed. Instead, he took her to the rooftop terrace.

The open-air area was spacious and clean, with many potted plants all around, creating a riot of color. Directly in front was a huge platform with a glass canopy, where one could look up and see a sky full of stars.

“This place is nice,” Su Mi sighed.

“It’s not bad.” Meng Xicong suddenly threw his coat on the white marble platform behind her and picked her up around the waist.

“What are you doing?” Su Mi’s eyes widened.

“I love you.” Meng Xicong placed her on the platform, while he himself stood below the half-person-high platform.

    “Heavens! Someone will come!”

“No one will be here.” He stroked her face, looking down at her. “I had the guards seal off the entire floor.”

    “…”

Su Mi lay on her back on the cold platform, and he, like a black eagle, perched above her. His resolute face held a deep and captivating gaze. His large hands roamed over her body, quickly unbuttoning her bathrobe to reveal her snow-white skin.

Looking at the woman beneath him, her eyes filled with intoxication and her face slightly flushed, like a white kitten, letting him do as he pleased and possess her, Meng Xicong’s voice became a little hoarse. He held her hands down and kissed her from her forehead down her body. Her body trembled between his lips and tongue, tender and unbearable.

“Heh…” he chuckled softly, “Seeing you dancing with other men, I would naturally feel jealous.”

Su Mi, lost in passion, let out a soft “Ah,” then laughed. To Meng Xicong, that laugh was like that of a pure, enchanting fairy, instantly igniting all his passion and desire.

Below the platform lay the expansive Youfu Garden. From the banquet area ahead, the faint sounds of bustling activity could still be heard. Further down, undulating mountains stretched out before an endless, brightly lit city. In the peaceful nights, this city was serene and beautiful.

On the platform, the night breeze gently caressed the intertwined bodies of the man and woman. Wheat tan and fair skin, hardness and softness, soul and body, expressed their primal and unwavering love in this most primal way.
