    Chapter 618: Warmth

As soon as Pei Que finished speaking, the hall fell silent for a moment; everyone felt the murderous aura emanating from him.

Shunzi was originally leading troops in the northwest, but upon hearing that the Pei family had been seized, he immediately rode to their aid without hesitation.

When Pei Que received Shunzi’s message, he immediately instructed Shunzi to begin preparations, as Shunzi was the person he trusted most.

The place they were going to was called Ding’an, not far from De’an; it would only take two more days to reach it.

Ding’an was a small border town of the Jin Dynasty. Because several small countries bordered it, trade was frequent, and many new faces flocked to Ding’an every day. Therefore, when Pei Que and his wife arrived in Ding’an, no one would find it strange.

After saying this, everyone, having worked hard all day, went to rest.

Pei Que and An Zhi left together. After entering the house, they told Chunlan, who was looking after the child, to go back and rest.

“After we go to Ding’an, you have even bigger plans, don’t you?” An Zhi gently placed her sleeping daughter into the cradle, then went to the candlestick and trimmed the wick.

Pei Que stood by the cradle, gazing at his daughter, Yue, inside. “I do not want our later years to be filled with hardship and displacement, and I cannot let go of this hatred.”

“Then do not let go.” An Zhi turned and smiled brightly at Pei Que. “I cannot let go either. Those two days you were imprisoned, listening to the mournful music in the Pei Mansion, I thought about how nothing in this world is more detestable than mournful music.”

Recalling the past, An Zhi’s eyes welled up with tears. “If you cannot let go, then don’t. Let’s fight our way back together. If we succeed, we will ask for official recognition for the old master. If we fail, there’s no need to regret it, because we will regret it even more if we do not fight our way back.”

As she spoke, An Zhi walked to Pei Que’s side and took his arm.

Pei Que lowered his head and gently kissed An Zhi’s forehead.

“It’s going to be hard on you,” Pei Que said guiltily.

“Hardship’s inevitable,” An Zhi leaned on Pei Que’s shoulder, feeling reassured. “Since I married you, it’s not just about enjoying life; your glory is my glory. If you have to strive, I will be with you.”

She smiled, looking up at Pei Que’s chin, her fingertips tracing his stubble. “Of course, when I achieve success, you will benefit from it too.”

Pei Que smiled, embracing An Zhi, warmth spreading through his body. “Alright, then I will be waiting for you, my wife.”

The couple smiled at each other, the hardships of the past few days vanishing in that moment.

Meanwhile, Shunzi lingered outside Binglu’s room for a long time, hesitant to knock.

Inside, Chunlan was getting anxious. Sitting beside Binglu, she complained, “Does he even want to see you? He’s been coming and going for so long, but he still has not knocked.”

Binglu bit her lip, her mind in turmoil.

She saw Shunzi today but had not spoken to him alone yet.

She wanted to talk to Shunzi; they had not seen each other in so long, and there were so many things she wanted to know.

On the other hand, Binglu was afraid to face Shunzi.

Both were conflicted, neither daring to take the initiative.

Outside, Fusheng pulled Shunzi aside. “Brother Shunzi, why do you not knock on the door?”

Shunzi stammered, his tongue seemingly tied in knots. “I’m afraid she will not want to be with me anymore.”

“How could that be? Sister Chunlan told me that Sister Binglu secretly made clothes and cloth shoes for you. If the Pei family had not been raided, they would have been sent to the Northwest by now.” Fusheng pushed Shunzi forward. “If you do not express your feelings now, Sister Binglu will think you are disgusted by her!”
