    Chapter 18. The Snail’s Shell

When I opened my eyes again, the first thing I saw was a broad, white chest and a man’s quiet, gentle sleeping face.

He held me in his arms, our limbs intertwined, our bodies pressed tightly against his smooth, warm skin. This intimate, suggestive position sent a rush of heat through my body. I carefully removed his arms from my waist and pulled my thighs away from between his legs. He was fast asleep, completely still. I breathed a sigh of relief and got out of bed.

Standing at the window of the Angel again, looking at the dark universe, I felt as if I had been transported to another world.

After leaving the palace last night, Mu Xian still had military duties, and Morin and Mop escorted me back to the Angel. I tossed and turned for half the night before finally falling asleep; he should have returned after that, without disturbing me.

Last night, as I lay in bed, recalling the emperor’s words, I felt as if the wounds I had painstakingly healed over the years had been reopened, dissected, and scrutinized layer by layer. The feeling was awful.

However, after a night’s sleep, I’ve calmed down a lot.

I had long ago decided to adapt to the role of a wife. What difference did the truth of what happened back then make? On the bright side, he was unstable at the time and might have even attacked Earth. If he had destroyed Earth, I would no longer exist. What was the point of talking about chastity and life then? I saved him, saved many Earthlings and Stan people, but I was also saving myself.

And I also learned that I was not a woman he kidnapped for his own sexual gratification. At least, he did not intend to hurt me.

This was already better than I originally expected. What was the point of wallowing in negativity? Living my own life to the fullest was the wise decision.

Even though I thought that, I still felt listless and did not want to stay in the same room with him. I changed my clothes and left the room.

The view outside the window was spectacular. Against the backdrop of the dazzling Milky Way, countless warships, like loyal steel guardians, silently sailed around the Angel. The massive fleet slowly passed through seemingly still star systems, heading alone into the depths of space.

I vaguely wished this voyage would never end. How wonderful it would be if I could slumber amidst this magnificent scenery, becoming like a star.

However, my thoughts were quickly interrupted. I smelled the aroma of food and suddenly felt ravenous. Following the scent, I soon arrived at a large hall with its doors open. A Chinese sign hung at the entrance: “Xian & Yao is Love Restaurant.” Below that, in smaller print, it read, “Also available: Pu and Lin.”

I almost laughed; this must have been what Morin was doing. I looked up and saw Morin, wearing a tall white hat and a long apron, standing with her back to me behind the counter, busy at work. Meanwhile, Mop sat upright at the dining table, flipping through a piece of levitation crystal.

I walked in, and Mop immediately stood up and gave me a crisp military salute. Morin, meanwhile, swung her spatula forcefully and shouted noisily, “Oh, my future princess, why are you here alone? Where is the commander?”

    He was still sleeping.

Mop nodded: “The Commander has not slept for days and nights.”

“Exactly!” Morin walked over carrying a delicate white plate in one hand, his other hand on his chest. “He had to control the capital and search for Miss, all for the woman he deeply loved, willingly sacrificing everything. Fortunately, we all returned safely without any major incident.”

Listening to his heartfelt sigh, I suddenly had a flash of inspiration and asked him, “Have you been reading Qiong Yao’s novels?”

    “What is that?” Mop interrupted.

Morin covered her face in embarrassment: “Miss, robots have hobbies too.”

I could not help but laugh. Looking down, I saw two delicate side dishes, one meat and one vegetable, and a bowl of freshly cooked fish porridge. The presentation was refreshing and appetizing.

“Thank you.” I picked up my chopsticks. “What would you like to eat?”

“It has just been charged.” Mop nodded politely, while Morin lay on the table, staring at me with wide eyes: “Is it good? I made it according to the recipe.”

Just as I was about to answer, they both stood up at the same time and looked behind me: “Good morning, Commander.”

I felt a stiffness in my back, put down the bowl, and turned to look at him.

His crisp military uniform was neat and precise, and his snow-white face was calm and composed, without a trace of the drowsy feeling of someone who had just woken up.

“Good morning.” His gaze lingered on me.

    “……morning.”

The dining table was round. Mopl pulled out the chair to my right, walked over and sat down, glanced at the plate in front of me, and looked at Morin: “Is that all she ate?”

Morin replied, feeling wronged, “She always eats this much in the morning.”

    “That is enough,” I said.

He glanced at me, then suddenly picked up my chopsticks, took a little of each dish, and ate it. He then picked up my small spoon and drank a small sip of porridge. After that, he nodded and looked at me, saying, “It tastes good.”

He did everything as if it were the most natural thing in the world, and I stared blankly at the chopsticks and spoons he had used. Mopmorin looked even more shocked.

“Commander…” Morin could not help but ask cautiously, “Have you recovered from your mysophobia?”

Mu Xian’s expression was indifferent, but a smile appeared in his eyes: “She is very clean, including her saliva.”

I did not know where his assertion about cleanliness came from, but staring at the food in front of me, I was truly at a loss. If I asked for new bowls and chopsticks, Morin would definitely refuse, but if I kept using them, they would be covered in his saliva.

But I did not dwell on it for long. I was kissed so passionately by him that I could still taste his flavor in my mouth. What did it matter if I used the chopsticks he had used? No need to be sentimental.

I kept eating with my head down, and Morin brought over a new plate and placed it in front of Mu Xian. I did not care what he was eating, but I was still a little surprised when I caught a glimpse of what was on it.

Besides the porridge and side dishes like mine, there was also a large, square piece of… raw beef? Although the surface was fried to a dark red, most of the inside was bright red, with faint traces of blood visible.

He used his gleaming silver knife to cut a small piece of beef and slowly put it into his mouth. His movements were very elegant, and his expression was calm. He ate without making a sound, his pale red lips slightly pursed, his cheeks slightly puffed out, rising and falling gently.

But I could not help but picture his perfectly white teeth tearing powerfully at bloody chunks of flesh. Then I remembered how he had used those same teeth to bite many people, and finally, I remembered his predatory, deep kisses…

“Why are you staring at me?” A soft voice suddenly sounded in my ear, and I snapped back to reality, realizing that I had been staring at his mouth for a long time.

I was speechless for a moment, but Morin, who was standing next to me, burst out laughing.

“Oh, my Commander! A lover’s tender gaze should be enjoyed, not questioned!”

Neither Mu Xian nor I answered. Morin looked embarrassed, and Mop tugged at his arm. The two of them said they were going to check the energy bay and quickly left.

As soon as they left, I could not sit still anymore, and my mouth tasted like wax. I put down my chopsticks and was about to get up when I heard his cold voice: “Sit down.”

I looked down at the table and remained seated.

“I will not hurt my wife.” A deep and calm voice.

I looked up in surprise. He was staring straight at me, his pale, grim face framed by eyes as black as a deep pool and as cold as ice, sharp enough to saw right into my soul.

“Are you scared when you heard I might turn into a beast and lose control?” His tone was low and gentle, without a trace of anger. But I was already familiar with his coldness, and I felt a little uneasy.

    “……fine.”

My chin tightened suddenly as his fingers gripped it. The pressure was gentle yet firm, forcing me to look up at him.

He stared at me: “Having gone through the beast transformation last time, my genes are now very stable. You are my woman, the mother of my future children. I will only protect you and satisfy you; I will never betray you or hurt you.”

When he spoke, his features were delicate and refined, and his voice was soft and pleasant. I knew he was serious and that he was assertive and resolute. For some reason, a deep sense of powerlessness welled up inside me.

“I am not afraid of you,” I said. “I am just shocked.”

“Really?” He suddenly stood up and leaned down to kiss me. Caught off guard, I was struck by his kiss. I stood frozen, stunned, as he licked my lips and whispered, “Answer me.”

As he said this, he had already lifted me up by the waist. I numbly stuck out my tongue, and he took it into his mouth.

My tongue felt itchy from his biting, but I tasted a bitter flavor that lingered deep inside me. A moment later, he buried his head in the crook of my shoulder.

“After we get married, I will be able to have sex with you every day,” he said softly. “My genes will be more stable.”

I stiffened, but he released me, stared at me, and said, “Come back to the room with me.”

I let him lead me back.

He seemed a little unsatisfied just now. I guessed what awaited me was a passionate kiss or perhaps intimate caresses while naked. That made my heart ache, but I could only accept it indifferently.

When I entered the room, he had not turned on the lights; it was dark and gloomy, just like my mood. He let go of my hand in front of the sofa and walked to his desk. I slowly sat down, feeling lost and cold inside.

A pale blue light suddenly appeared in the air behind him. I looked up in surprise and saw the light and shadow gradually forming a clear picture. It was a spacious, bright, and warmly decorated room. Elegant oil paintings hung on the walls, the floor was made of warm-colored wood, and the table was filled with flowers and fruit.

Mu Xian silently walked over and sat down beside me, took my hand, and placed a small, thin metal piece in my palm. I could not tell what it was for, nor did I understand what he wanted to do. His profile was calm and solemn, revealing nothing.

Soon, a middle-aged woman in a white lab coat appeared in the image. To my surprise, her image was three-dimensional; I could even see her individual, fine eyebrows. If it were not for the silvery glow surrounding her, I would have almost thought there was another woman in the room.

“Your Highness, Your Highness,” she said respectfully, “everything is ready.”

    Mu Xian nodded slightly.

The camera pans away from the woman. I saw an elderly man sitting peacefully in a wheelchair by the window, a gentle smile on his lips.

I felt a sudden “boom” in my head, and all the blood in my body seemed to freeze. I could hardly believe what I was seeing, but it was my grandmother, sitting less than three meters away from me, as if she were a real person.
