    Chapter 52. Start Reading

When he woke up again, the room was dimly lit. Mu Xian was still sitting upright by the window, with the inky sky and the glittering stars behind him.

I turned on the light, and he had already come to the bedside, pulled me into his arms, and kissed me for a while. His face looked somewhat pale, and there seemed to be a trace of fatigue in his eyes. I thought it was due to the continuous use of mental energy and staying up all night. Remembering that Morin had said that his brain death rate was accelerating, my heart ached.

But considering that I still had to risk getting him away tonight, it would be better for me if he got tired and exhausted. So I would just let him go.

“Are you hungry?” His lips lingered on my neck. I glanced at the clock behind him; it was one in the morning. I had roughly estimated that Morin had appeared around four in the morning yesterday.

    Three hours left.

    I nodded.

He was still kissing my ear, without lifting his head. He waved his hand lightly in the air, and a blue light flashed. A fragrant table of food appeared in front of me, all of which were my favorite dishes.

I was starving, so I picked up my chopsticks and started eating. But the thought that all of this was fake made me feel conflicted.

“Aren’t you going to eat?” I looked at Mu Xian, and my cheeks immediately flushed—he was actually looking down at me, unbuttoning my pajamas and examining me intently.

“I won’t eat.” His expression was indifferent, and his hand had already covered hers.

This meal left me feeling restless all over. But Mu Xian seemed very serious and patient, looking down at me quietly, stroking, teasing, and licking my body, as if he were addicted to playing with it.

Seeing him doing this obsessive thing with such a detached expression, I felt even more sorry for him.

After quickly finishing my meal, I thought I couldn’t delay any longer; there were still a few things to prepare. Just as I was about to speak to him, he let go of me, got up, and started getting dressed.

“Let’s go to the forest,” he said calmly. “Yi Pucheng should be almost fully restored.”

I was stunned—so he was going to do as I told him yesterday and beat up Yi Pucheng again? No way! If he cripples him again today, how am I going to take those two grown men away by myself later?

There must be a healthy Yi Pucheng to help me get the unconscious Mu Xian into the sea.

    I had to delay him.

By this time, Mu Xian was already dressed and turned to look at me. A thought flashed through my mind, and I said, “But you haven’t eaten anything yet.”

He smiled and shook his head: “I’m not hungry.”

I picked up a piece of bread from the table, stood up, and brought it to his lips: “Don’t refuse to eat. I will feed you.”

He stared at me silently for a few seconds, which made me feel a little guilty—could he have figured out my intentions?

The next moment, he took off his hat and gloves, sat back in his chair, picked me up and placed me on his lap, and began to eat from my hand. His dim yellow eyes remained fixed on me, a faint smile playing on his lips.

He was very happy and seemed to have forgotten about Yi Pucheng.

I felt both nervous and heartbroken and said softly, “If you like it, I will feed you every day from now on.”

“Hmm.” His expression relaxed even more.

As I fed them, I was making plans in my mind.

I thought about it yesterday, and there were three things I needed to prepare:

First, Morin told us to go to the edge of space—an ocean. This village was right behind the sea, but were there any other oceans in this world? I must find out from Mu Xian whether the place Morin agreed upon was this ocean.

Secondly, we need tools to go out to sea. Everything here was built by Mu Xian; I must have him build me a ship.

Third, persuade Yi Pucheng to join forces. This was almost no problem; given his personality, he would definitely prioritize his own interests.

But questions one and two were indeed a bit tricky. Although Mu Xian’s temperament had changed drastically, he was still very alert and shrewd.

“What are you thinking about?” Mu Xian’s cold voice suddenly rang in my ears. I was so startled that my hand trembled, and I looked up to meet his dim yellow eyes.

“It’s nothing…” My heart was pounding, and I quickly grabbed a large piece of his favorite raw beef from the side to hide my panic. But then my wrist tightened, and he grabbed it.

“Speak,” he said, staring at me.

I was startled and instinctively leaned my head against his chest to avoid his piercing gaze.

“I’m thinking…” I said softly and slowly, “I’m thinking about… that flood. I’m thinking about that flood.”

    He remained silent.

I felt reassured, and my words flowed clearly and coherently: “When you talked about the bomb yesterday, it reminded me of that flood, which was also very dangerous. I’m still scared when I think about it now.”

He held my arm tightly, saying, “Don’t be afraid. There won’t be any more floods.”

I brought up the floods to steer the conversation toward continental structure, pretending to be a little worried as I said, “Are you sure? You fainted at the beach last time; it scared me to death.”

“I’m sure.” He pinched my chin, forcing me to look him in the eye, and then slowly, softly said, “From now on, whatever you don’t like, I will destroy; whatever you like, we will build together.”

Listening to his soft, gentle voice, my heart felt as if it had been gently struck, and a tender emotion welled up silently, spreading through my heart.

But it was precisely because she was moved that she felt an even stronger urge to bring him back to reality.

Back to reality, let’s build it together. I whispered to myself.

I smiled at him and casually asked, “Now that the flood’s over, is that desolate continent we were on still there?”

    “It no longer exists.”

I looked at him with some curiosity: “What’s behind that ocean? I always thought it was that continent.”

    “Empty.”

A sudden surge of joy filled my heart. This meant that the ocean behind the house was located on the edge of space. How wonderful! It came so easily.

However, it couldn’t be completely determined whether there was an ocean in other directions.

“Oh.” I nodded in realization. “Did you surround the world with the ocean? It’s surrounded by water on all sides.”

He shook his head: “One ocean’s enough.” He smiled slightly and said, “I don’t want to give you the same scenery twice.”

I smiled and nodded at him: “Thank you, I like it very much.”

I love it! The location was confirmed; that was great!

It was only natural to steer the conversation toward the second question.

I laughed and said, “Since there’s a sea here, how about we go fishing later? I’ve seen other people go night fishing before, and it looks really interesting.”

    He nodded: “Okay.”

I was overjoyed, thinking I should persuade him to take Yi Pucheng with him and throw him into the sea to feed the fish. Just as I was about to speak, he said, “But not today.”

I froze, and he continued, “Right now, the ocean’s on the edge of space, and it isn’t very stable. In a few days, I will build islands and a mainland on the other side of the sea, and then I will take you out to sea.”

My heart sank. If the island continent were built, the ocean would no longer be the edge, and the time agreed upon by Morin would have passed. Before I could come up with a solution, he had already let go of me and stood up: “It’s time to go to the forest.”

Outside, the stars filled the sky, and the river flowed silently. In the distance, the deep forest seemed shrouded in mist, dark and chilling. Mu Xian held my hand, and we walked slowly forward. My heart was in turmoil, frantically trying to find a solution.

I dared not mention going to sea again, afraid he would find out. But what could I do without a boat?

“Do you like it?” His soft voice sounded in my ear.

I was startled, and following his gaze, I looked at the hazy, brilliant nebula in the sky.

“I like it,” I murmured. “Can I look at it more closely?”

He nodded: “I will pull them down.”

I quickly shook my head: “No, that’s too boring. I want to go to the sky to see.” I looked at him and said with a smile, “Mu Xian, let’s build an airplane. Let’s call it the new Angel.”

Wouldn’t airplanes be better if there were no ships?

He looked at me and smiled slightly: “You want to fly?”

I nodded and hugged his waist: “Walking all day, my feet hurt too.” Before I finished speaking, my feet were already off the ground. He looked down at me: “I don’t need an airplane.”

I was stunned, and then I saw the scenery on the ground begin to slowly descend, while a pale blue glow appeared around our bodies—we were ascending into the air.

“I will take you flying,” he hugged me tightly from behind, “to anywhere.”

    ***

We flew for less than a few minutes, and the surrounding starry sky seemed to jump faster than light, changing several times in an instant. We were already in a brilliant galaxy.

Upon closer inspection, I realized that Mu Xian had created countless miniature celestial bodies and placed them in the sky. The dazzling twin stars spun and shone in my palm, the gray-brown pillar of time stood quietly at my feet, and the blue Earth and the orange-red sun floated before my eyes.

The entire Milky Way galaxy was before me.

But this fantastical scenery didn’t bring me any joy. I was a little frustrated. There were no boats or planes, so what was I going to do? Should I swim across?

My eyes darted around, occasionally glancing at Mu Xian with a smile. Suddenly, I saw the ceiling.

Yes, the zenith. The dark blue sky was right above us, seemingly less than ten meters away, and the textures of those pale blue cracks became exceptionally clear.

I was taken aback. Was the real world just outside the crack?

“You will never hear that voice again.” A calm voice suddenly rang in my ears. I was startled, then realized what it meant, and turned to look at Mu Xian with horror.

He was looking down at me, his fair face glowing like jade in the starlight. But his eyes remained dark and sallow.

He said… “That voice”—how much did he hear yesterday?

“I’ve reinforced the space,” he said in a low, gentle voice. “No matter who that voice is, you won’t hear it again.”

My heart sank, and a chill ran down my spine. I forced a smile and said, “You must have misheard. There was no sound.”

He looked at me without saying a word, which made my heart pound. After a while, he gently put his arm around me and said softly, “Let’s go downstairs.”

I buried my head in his chest, not daring to look at him. It was terrifying. How much did he know? Had he already figured out my intentions? Had Morin said we absolutely couldn’t let him know? Did that mean our escape plan was ruined?

No, that wasn’t right. A thought suddenly struck me: his statement, “regardless of who that voice is,” meant he hadn’t heard our conversation but was simply suspicious.

    We still had hope.

    But it still wasn’t right.

I just tried to ask for a boat and a plane, but he casually brushed me off. I initially thought it was just a coincidence, but what if he was already suspicious of me yesterday…?

    He noticed.

He knew I wanted to run away.

What he just said to me was clearly a warning.

I leaned against his warm embrace and suddenly felt a chill run through my body, a chill that made me tremble with fear.

But right now, he was in a state of confusion, and his possessiveness towards me was almost insane. Why didn’t he do anything when he sensed that I wanted to escape?

I had imagined what would happen if he found out—perhaps I would be imprisoned, or perhaps subjected to even more frenzied and forceful sexual acts. But now, he allows me to roam freely with him in any space.

    Why?

A chill ran down my spine.

He was waiting; he was testing the waters. He didn’t yet know how the people outside planned to take me out, so he was observing the situation.

Is he planning to wait until we start our escape before delivering the final blow?

I felt cold sweat all over my body—that must be it.

I didn’t know what other plans Morin had or what we would have to do after we reached the ocean. But my only worry was that the last chance that the people outside had painstakingly arranged would be seized by Mu Xian and completely crushed, cutting off any possibility of us escaping this world.

In a daze, we found ourselves beneath a dense canopy of trees, only a dozen meters above the ground. My mind was in turmoil as I looked at Mu Xian—his profile was cool and handsome, and he appeared quite calm.

“Do you like it?” He smiled faintly.

    My heart was pounding: “What?”

    “Star.”

    I nodded: “I like it.”

“I will teach you how to create stars later,” he said casually, “after I’ve dealt with all the troubles outside.”

I felt a chill creep up my spine. He stared at me silently, his dim, yellowish eyes looking cold and sinister.

    I reluctantly said, “Okay…”

Before I could finish speaking, his expression suddenly changed drastically. The golden light that had been shining in his eyes vanished in an instant, revealing dark and dull pupils.

My heart skipped a beat—it was Morin! The appointed time had arrived!

In the blink of an eye, Mu Xian’s body began to tremble violently again, and the hand that had been locked around my waist suddenly released its grip. After a brief moment of tension, I was terrified—we were still in midair! What terrible timing!

I grabbed Mu Xian’s waist! But it was of no use! The gentle spiritual force that had been supporting us vanished abruptly. We plummeted straight down from a height of seven or eight meters!

“Ah!” I screamed, my legs trembling uncontrollably in the wind, feeling both desperate and aggrieved—if I broke my leg, how could I take him out?

“Heh…” A low chuckle drifted down from below, and before I could react, I suddenly felt a strong force gripping my waist! My downward momentum came to an abrupt halt!

Instead of the expected tearing pain from a bone fracture, I fell into a warm embrace.

Against the backdrop of the dark night sky, Yi Pucheng squinted as he looked down at me, his deep, dark eyes shining like stars.

I was stunned, then overjoyed: “Yi Pucheng!”

He nodded but didn’t answer. He put me down and looked down at Mu Xian in his arms—he had caught both of us at the same time. Startled by his sinister gaze, I quickly said, “Yi Pucheng, listen to me, time’s of the essence… No! Stop!”

    It was too late.

He grabbed Mu Xian by the back, threw him into the air, and kicked him hard. Mu Xian’s body was sent tumbling and flying a long distance before crashing into a tree with a “bang.”

Before I could even yell and curse, he rushed forward again, lifted Mu Xian up, and hoisted him onto his shoulder. He turned to look at me, a faint smile already on his face, looking both sinister and relieved.

“Let’s go to the beach.” His voice was deep and powerful.

I was taken aback. He glanced at me and said succinctly, “I heard everything yesterday.”

I suddenly realized—he had actually woken up while I was talking to Morin yesterday, but he had been pretending. What a cunning fellow.

His timely appearance suggests that he had been secretly observing us since recovering, waiting for Morin’s time to arrive.

    but……

I looked at his calm profile and sharp eyes. Although kicking Mu Xian earlier had made me very uncomfortable, escaping was the priority now, and Mu Xian had hit him even harder. If he could cooperate without holding a grudge after he had vented his anger, things would be much easier.

Fortunately, the coastline wasn’t far, and we didn’t waste any time talking, jogging to the beach. The waves were surging, and the water was dark in the night. He casually tossed Mu Xian onto the sand, his tall frame standing before me, staring at me: “Where’s the boat?”

I froze slightly: “There’s no boat.”

He was taken aback: “An airplane? Don’t tell me there’s nothing there.”

I could only nod: “There’s nothing there.”

“Damn it!” He grabbed my collar, clearly struggling to accept the fact. “You’ve got him completely smitten, and you didn’t even ask him for a ship or an airplane? He could have built one with a wave of his hand!”

I looked at his tense face and gloomy dark eyes and shook my head: “I wanted it, but he wouldn’t give it to me. He already knows we are going to escape. I think he’s waiting for us to escape so he can catch us all in one fell swoop.”

Yi Pucheng was taken aback. He let go of me, glanced at Mu Xian on the ground, remained silent for a few seconds, and then turned and walked towards our home behind the beach.

“Where are you going?” I asked hurriedly, because Mu Xian would wake up in an hour.

“What can I do? Tear down a piece of the roof to use as a raft!” he roared.

    Raft?

I quickly asked, “Do you need my help?”

“Save your breath,” he said rather rudely. Suddenly, he stopped and turned to look at me, his tone this time very serious.

“Even if your crazy husband has laid a trap, we have no other way to go.”

I looked at his almost indifferent face and nodded. That was what I thought too. Knowing the road ahead was uncertain, we could only move forward, not backward.

Fortunately, the raft-making process went relatively smoothly. Yi Pucheng said our house was made of a new type of lightweight metal material, with low density and good quality. He tore off half of the roof, dismantled several large metal plates to use as oars, and threw Mu Xian onto it, and I sat on top. With a strong push, we left the shore. He stood in the water, pushing the raft to a sufficient depth before turning over and sitting on it himself. By this time, Mu Xian had been unconscious for 25 minutes.

“Where do we row?” I asked Yi Pucheng.

    “Straight ahead,” he replied coldly.

The sea stretched endlessly under the night sky, like a colossal, dark beast lurking beneath our feet. Fortunately, the deeper we went, the calmer it became, without a breath of wind. Yi Pucheng was like a motor at full power, whipping the oars around with incredible speed. Thanks to his robotic abilities, our oars moved as fast as a boat, and the trees and houses along the shore quickly disappeared from sight.

But time passed by, second by second.

I held Mu Xian in my arms, sitting in the middle of the raft. He was still fast asleep, his fair cheeks smooth and beautiful in the starlight. But I was afraid he would suddenly open his eyes, those dim, yellowish eyes, and then we would be dragged into a virtual abyss.

Don’t wake up, didn’t wake up. I held him tightly, silently praying in my heart, “Let me take you back.”

“Did you see that?” Yi Pucheng suddenly said, breathing heavily. I was startled and looked in the direction he was pointing, but all I saw was a dark expanse. I shook my head.

He was already shirtless, his muscular chest drenched in sweat, his eyes fixed straight ahead, his oars moving faster, and his voice filled with joy: “We are almost there!”

    Is it almost here?

At first I was a little confused, but after a few minutes I saw it clearly.

“That is…” I exclaimed excitedly, “The edge of space!”

“Haha!” Yi Pucheng laughed loudly and paddled forward a few more times with all his might. Our raft shot out with a “whoosh” as if it had hit an invisible wall and came to a stop with a soft sound.

I held Mu Xian in my arms, gazing at the strange scenery before me.

Below, the deep black sea; above, the brilliant starry sky—it all seemed to vanish abruptly from the section before us. And beyond that invisible section lay the same deep gray, boundless void I had once seen in that mysterious castle. Dark, luminous patterns flickered and floated in the void, a chaotic, endless expanse.

We looked at each other silently, neither of us saying a word. After a while, I couldn’t help but ask, “What do we do next?”

“Who knows?” Yi Pucheng also sat down on the raft, his eyes dark and unreadable.

I glanced at my watch again (I specifically took it out to wear when I went out today), and there were still twelve minutes until Mu Xian woke up.

But all we could do was wait. Silence reigned, the water still. The whole world seemed to quiet down along with Mu Xian’s slumber. When I looked back, the starry sky, the forest, and the earth—all were so peaceful and beautiful.

“Hua Yao!” Yi Pucheng suddenly stood up beside me, staring at the void. I turned around and was stunned—

    water surface.

Behind that cross-section, in the endless void, water slowly emerged. The water gradually expanded, the void gradually disappeared, and then the sky and stars appeared… It looked like our space, continuing to spread in that direction.

“What’s going on?” I asked in a low voice, watching the scenery opposite me still gradually increase.

Yi Pucheng didn’t answer but instead reached out and touched the original cross-section.

The cross-section disappeared, and his hand reached into the water ahead.

A glint flashed in his eyes, and he suddenly smiled.

“Ha. I get it. Whoever came up with this idea is a fucking genius,” he said. “They must have used computers to create an identical space on the edge of the Mu Xian Space, a perfect fake, to take us out!”

I was startled, and for a moment I seemed to understand something, but I wasn’t quite sure.

They appeared very quickly, filling the entire void in just a few seconds. A vast expanse of water appeared before us.

Just then, I suddenly heard a soft moan from my arms, which startled me. Looking down, I saw Mu Xian’s brows furrowed and his eyelashes trembling slightly.

He seems to be waking up! He was actually waking up early!

“Quick!” I shouted. Yi Pucheng frowned and rowed with all his might, and our raft instantly rushed into a new space.
