The next day was Sunday. Zhang Chao had only fallen asleep at dawn and didn’t get up until around noon.

When he got up, he found the black cat lying there motionless with its eyes slightly closed.

At first, Zhang Chao was extremely worried, but when he went over, he realized the black cat was just resting and recovering. Having suffered such a serious injury, it would probably take a long time to recover. Zhang Chao mixed anti-inflammatory medicine into crushed biscuits, added water, and fed it to the cat. The cat limped over, ate a few bites, and then went back to sleep.

Zhang Chao sighed, completely baffled as to who had injured the black cat so badly.

At noon, he ate lunch with Chen Rong. Chen Rong, having learned about the black cat, was also suspicious. They thought about it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out. She could only tell Zhang Chao to close the windows when he slept in the future, even if it meant the cat would poop in the dormitory.

    Zhang Chao nodded, feeling annoyed.

Chen Rong was going out with her classmates in the afternoon and evening, so Zhang Chao had to study alone in the East Campus.

It was nearly 10 PM when Zhang Chao left the classroom, retrieved his bike from the underground parking garage, and rode out. He couldn’t help but wonder if he’d run into that unlucky woman in black again today. Once on the road, he couldn’t resist looking back south, but there was no sign of her.

For some reason, encountering that woman in black had made him feel uneasy, yet at the same time, he felt a strange excitement at the prospect of getting closer to the truth. Now, looking back and not seeing her on the road, he felt a slight sense of loss.

Should he ride around the south side of the road and see what happens?

This sudden thought made Zhang Chao’s heart skip a beat. He tried hard to suppress it, but the thought, like sprouted ginger, kept pushing upwards.

People were always like that; once the wound healed, they’d forget the pain. Like playing the stock market, even if you lose a lot, after a period of no losses, you would want to try again, hoping for a series of limit-up days next time. It was like a student playing games before an exam; if they failed, they resolved to study harder next time. As a result, he couldn’t resist playing games again right before the exam and failed again.

This cycle repeated itself; it was human nature.

If Zhang Chao were standing in the School of Medicine right now, he would definitely be thinking about getting out as quickly as possible and wouldn’t have any curiosity or desire to search for the woman in black.

But now, standing on the road where students were heading back to their dorms, with so many people coming and going, he had no fear whatsoever.

Having made up his mind, he immediately turned his bike around and rode south.

Along the way, he encountered several students on rollerblading teams skating around campus, which made him feel even more at ease, and he wasn’t afraid at all.

When he reached the south road, although at first glance the flow of people was sparse, with only a few students walking by, perhaps returning from self-study or perhaps just strolling around, there were still streetlights on the sidewalks. Besides, he was riding a bike today, so if something strange happened, he could escape quickly.

After riding for several hundred meters, suddenly his eyes lit up. A little over a hundred meters away, walking along the edge of the road, who else could it be but the woman in black?

That “Aren’t you afraid of retribution?” line must have come from that wretched woman!

He was going to storm up to her today and get to the bottom of this!

Enraged, Zhang Chao immediately sped up. Suddenly, the woman in black turned around. Zhang Chao quickly stopped. The woman’s face was deathly pale; from a distance, he couldn’t see her expression. They stared at each other for a few seconds, then the woman in black turned right, not walking along the road but crossing the grass.

Zhang Chao was stunned, then immediately gave chase on his bike.

Upon reaching her, the woman in black was already on the road leading to Nanhua Garden. Zhang Chao was about 50 meters away when she turned and disappeared like a ghost into the darkness of Nanhua Garden.

Zhang Chao stopped, hesitating. What was this woman doing in Nanhua Garden?

Should he go in or not?

The thought of how she had almost crippled him that night with her words of “retribution” filled him with rage. He rode to the entrance of Nanhua Garden, parked his bike, and walked inside.
