    ☆, Chapter 68. Finale

In the blink of an eye, it was late May in both worlds. As the turmoil caused by news of the Prince Consort’s dethronement and the release of the Noble Consort from the palace gradually subsided in the Daxi Dynasty, the AS exams finally arrived in the 21st century.

In the last week before the exams, the school was closed as usual, allowing candidates to prepare for the exam in their own way. Those who wanted to continue studying could do so at home, while those who wanted to clear their minds could do whatever they pleased.

On the evening of the holiday, Fan Xiaoyuan received a call from Yuwen Ke. He asked her, “You don’t have any other plans for the next few days, right?”

Fan Xiaoyuan said, “Yes. I plan to sleep like a log.”

“Be careful not to deprive your brain of oxygen,” he said with a smile on the other end of the phone. Then, “I have two tickets to Shanghai Disneyland. Do you want to go?”

“Huh?!” Fan Xiaoyuan thought; this is too crazy.

“The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail is fast, arriving in just five hours. We’ll spend a day there and back, two days playing in between, and two days resting when we get back.” Yuwen Ke’s tone clearly indicated a perfect plan. Fan Xiaoyuan hesitated, then sat up in bed and walked out in her slippers. “Wait a minute, I’ll ask Mom.”

After she finished speaking, the phone fell silent. Yuwen Ke stood on the balcony, waiting anxiously, turning his head to check the clock several times. Each time, he thought at least several minutes had passed, only to realize only seven or eight seconds had passed.

Finally, he heard the phone being lifted from the table again and then heard Fan Xiaoyuan say, “My mom agreed. When are we leaving?”

“The high-speed train leaves at 10:28! I’ll meet you outside your house tomorrow morning at 8:00!”

Yuwen Ke seemed inexplicably nervous. He hung up the phone immediately after saying this, as if afraid she’d change her mind.

Fan Xiaoyuan was stunned for three seconds before reacting: “You’re asking after the tickets have already been booked…?”

Her Lord Yuwen, you acted first and asked for my permission later!!!

So, that night, she traveled to Daxi and wanted to confront Yuwen Ke about this matter. However, Yuwen Ke woke up before her and rushed to the Ministry of Works while she was still asleep. He waited until she fell asleep before returning to the palace.

So Fan Xiaoyuan came downstairs carrying her suitcase. The moment she saw him, she glared at him. “You acted first and asked for permission later! And you’re hiding from me!”

“No, no,” Yuwen Ke said, smiling as he helped her carry her suitcase. He strode briskly to the express and shoved her suitcase into the trunk.

Once Fan Xiaoyuan got in, she glared at him again. “Why are you so nervous? I won’t run away.”

“…” Yuwen Ke scratched his head awkwardly. “Oh…”

For the next two days, the two of them had a blast at Disneyland during the day and went back to Daxi at night, each busy with their own things. On the day before returning to Beijing, Wen Xuan requested an audience after returning from the Ministry of Revenue. He stuttered for a long time, unable to get his words across: “Su Qi and I… well… thought… that… Your Majesty could… ahem…”

Fan Xiaoyuan rested her chin on her hand, looking at him amusedly. After a moment’s gaze, she burst out laughing. “Okay, I get it. Let’s have the Ministry of Rites choose an auspicious day to depose you, and then we can have the wedding that day?”

Wen Xuan bowed his head, his head bowed. “Thank you, Your Majesty.”

The Empress was clearly in high spirits, bouncing over to him. “Do you think July’s an auspicious date and is okay? Yuwen Ke’s been busy lately, so…”—the real reason was that July was their summer vacation, allowing them to focus on the wedding.

    Wen Xuan nodded. “Your Majesty.”

“Alright, I’ll have someone pass the message to the Ministry of Rites right away.” Fan Xiaoyuan breathed a sigh of relief and patted his shoulder. “Congratulations in advance… But I also want to say hello. You might be busy for a year after the wedding. The Regent wants you to be promoted quickly to assist me in governing the country, so she and the General can get away.”

“?” Wen Xuan didn’t understand. “She and the General?”

Fan Xiaoyuan: “Hahahaha, they’re a couple. I know you didn’t realize it!”

Wen Xuan’s eyes widened, and he was speechless for a long moment, unable to utter another word. Fan Xiaoyuan waved her hand. “Don’t be surprised. Just respect their personal feelings. You just work hard and get them their own little courtyard in Hangzhou—that’s the key! Understand?”

Wen Xuan was still confused. For a second, two, three…

Fan Xiaoyuan had to snap her fingers to bring him back to his senses: “Hey!”

“Ah…” Wen Xuan tried to remain calm and nodded. “Got it.”

He paused and said, “I’ll take my leave.”

Fan Xiaoyuan nodded. He bowed and left, but after a few steps, he turned back. “One more small matter.”

Fan Xiaoyuan tilted his head. “Hmm?”

Wen Xuan said, “When Your Majesty asked about this, I had concerns, so I lied to Your Majesty.”

Fan Xiaoyuan nodded in understanding, looked at him, and said, “Are you going to tell me the truth now? Go ahead, I’ll listen. Here!”

Wen Xuan smiled. “When we made a wish at the temple by the lake in Hangzhou, I said the third sign was blank, but it wasn’t.” He looked her in the eye and said frankly, “I drew wild geese.”

“Ah…” Fan Xiaoyuan understood immediately. “Were you praying for the fulfillment of your lofty ambitions?”

“Yes.” He nodded, pondered for a moment, then said it again with extraordinary sincerity, “Thank you, Your Majesty.”

Fan Xiaoyuan laughed heartily. “It’s just a small favor; you’re welcome!”

He smiled too, the same enchanting smile he had when they first met, but it seemed even warmer and more relaxed than before, making Fan Xiaoyuan’s heart race again.

He was so good. He was doing so well.

She smiled and sighed. Wen Xuan bowed again, this time truly leaving.

So, at the end of July, Su Qi and Wen Xuan’s wedding shocked the entire capital. This was the first time since the founding of the Daxi Dynasty that a male member of the imperial family had been released from the palace to start a family. Furthermore, he was the first man in the Daxi Dynasty to hold an official position.

In August, the AS exam results were announced. Yuwen Ke, unsurprisingly, scored four A’s. At the start of the semester, he received unconditional offers from the Imperial College London, Warwick, and the London School of Economics, and he also received an interview with Cambridge University.

Fan Xiaoyuan, who had only taken three subjects, also scored three A’s. Warwick and the London School of Economics offered her conditional offers, requiring her to also obtain three A’s in her A2 exams in her final year of high school—not too much of a burden for her now. Furthermore, she had unconditional offers from Manchester and Birmingham as a backup.

And so, in every world, life was gradually turning in the direction Fan Xiaoyuan desired.

According to the divine document, this time-travel state would persist. Fan Xiaoyuan hoped that her Daxi Dynasty self could make more positive changes. For example, she could establish a dedicated academy to gradually give ambitious boys the opportunity to study, or she could increase the number of male officials in the court, gradually allowing people to accept this kind of thing.

Of course, this would be difficult. Just as women in her 21st century had to fight for their legal rights, raising the status of men in a female-dominated society would certainly not be easy.

But she thought it didn’t matter. It was something she had to do, something she, as a time-traveled Empress, must do.

She had benefited from the improved status of women in modern society. If, after time-traveling and becoming a vested interest, she would simply accept the gender oppression that existed there, it would be better to let the person who had previously taken her fate continue to be Empress.

Furthermore, no matter how difficult this path, Yuwen Ke would help her. Whether in the 21st century or in Daxi, Yuwen Ke would help her. She was confident of this.

Looking back, the feeling of living two lives together once weighed heavily on her. But now, she found it wonderful, because she could live a wonderful life day and night, and see him every time.

In October, Yuwen Ke turned eighteen; in November, Fan Xiaoyuan also turned eighteen.

So, after Christmas at the end of December, Fan Xiaoyuan, with a feeling she wasn’t sure if it was a taste of forbidden fruit, “earnestly” flipped Yuwen Ke’s card.

She instructed Wang Jin to follow the same exact process for Yuwen Ke as the first time; then, with her cheeks flushed, she buried her face in her pillow, overcome with embarrassment as she waited.

About a moment later, Yuwen Ke, having received the imperial edict, rushed to the main hall entrance. “Xiaoyuan, stop messing around!!!”

Fan Xiaoyuan turned around in surprise. Yuwen Ke slammed the bedroom door open and slammed the bright yellow scroll of imperial edict onto the bed. His aura was powerful, but his tongue was tied. “No, no, no… No way, I’m telling you! That flower petal is so gay!!!”

“…” Fan Xiaoyuan blinked at him, aggrieved.

“…Your cuteness won’t help!” Yuwen Ke slumped down on the floor beside the bed, his expression a mixture of tragic heroism and determination. “If you insist on making me wash that, I’ll…”

    Fan Xiaoyuan shrank back. “What…you?”

“I’ll drag you with me!!!” He rolled up his sleeves, leaped to his feet, and reached out to pull her. Fan Xiaoyuan, already utterly embarrassed, panicked and slumped over the bed, crying, “I was wrong, I was wrong! No need for flower petals! Let me go!!!”

She winked at Wang Jin as she spoke, “Get out! Get out! Get out! Why would a grown man need flower petals!!!”

However, the fearless Her Lord Yuwen dragged the Empress into the Tangquan Palace.
