Chapter 74: Cui Zi Xuan Comes to Jiang Mansion

Half a month after the incident, the matter reached its conclusion.

Although the Emperor and some ministers tried their best to prove the innocence of the Empress’s family, the Wu clan, in the child abduction case, the rumors were overwhelming. Most importantly, Li Fu and Lady Li Wu, for some minor grudge, actually wanted to put Princess Yihua, personally appointed by the Emperor of Shu, to death—such lawless behavior was too heinous. Therefore, to set an example for others, Her Imperial Highness the Empress stood up for justice and sentenced Li Fu to beheading, while Lady Li Wu was imprisoned in the family temple to observe a vegetarian diet for life.

In other words, after the trials of Li Fu and Lady Li Wu, the rumors circulating outside that were detrimental to the Empress and her family disappeared.

When the result reached Jiang Mansion, Jiang Mi was still racking her brains, while the Three Mothers were already beaming with joy.

Mother Gong, a seasoned veteran of the palace, was the first to exclaim with delight, her voice trembling, “Princess, this is exactly right! First, you haven’t become mortal enemies with the Empress’s family; second, even Li Fu and the Empress’s Little Sister have fallen. Her Imperial Highness the Empress’s days are certainly numbered, and the Princess can finally have some peace!”

Mother Li, meanwhile, muttered to herself, “This is quite strange… Not long ago we were terrified by the Empress’s hostility. How come everything is resolved so quickly?”

Mother Gui also laughed, “It is quite strange… In short, our Princess is not to be trifled with.” Her comment caused all the servants in the household, including Jiang Wu, to burst into laughter.

Mother Gui looked at Jiang Mi and said, “I don’t know about other matters, but in this matter, Shu State’s Young Master Cui played a crucial role. If it weren’t for his pressure, how could the Empress have been willing to sacrifice her little sister as a scapegoat? Princess, you used to avoid Young Master Cui like the plague, but from now on, you should properly thank him.”

Almost as soon as Mother Gui finished speaking, footsteps sounded outside, and in the blink of an eye, a maid excitedly called out, “Your Highness, Cui Zi Xuan requests an audience!”

Cui Zi Xuan requested an audience? Cui Zi Xuan requested an audience!

As Jiang Mi reflexively widened her eyes, the Three Mothers stood up with joyful expressions and rushed out to greet him.

Jiang Wu quickly went to Jiang Mi’s side and whispered to her, “Little Sister, when you see Young Master Cui later, be polite… I’ve heard a lot of rumors outside. Some people say that after the incident, the Empress actually prepared many methods. She even said that you, Jiang Mi, were also the mastermind behind the child kidnapping. It was only because of internal conflict that you jumped out to report your accomplices. She also said that Mingyu Manor’s walls are so heavily fortified that you, Jiang Mi, could easily get out in the middle of the night… In short, with the power of the Empress and her family, plus His Majesty’s deliberate protection of the Empress’s reputation, it was entirely possible for things to reverse. But Young Master Cui blocked all of this, even dealing with the two people who wanted to harm you. So, you really owe him a huge favor…”

Jiang Wu hadn’t finished speaking, his eyes wide as he intently observed Jiang Mi, who suddenly asked, “Did you really just hear these rumors casually?”

    Jiang Wu was taken aback.

Jiang Mi pursed her lips, thinking to herself, “These words were clearly told to my Elder Brother by Cui Zi Xuan! Humph, everyone else does good deeds anonymously, but Cui Zi Xuan is afraid I won’t know what he’s done. He even went out of his way to tell my Elder Brother…”

Jiang Mi, lost in her own thoughts, was unaware that Cui Zi Xuan had already arrived at the main house of her residence.

The tall and elegant Shu State’s Young Master Cui was now leisurely observing the layout of Jiang Mi’s Mansion with his hands behind his back. After admiring her for a while, he smiled and turned to the obsequious Mother Li, asking, “I heard that Ma was once a senior servant of Lady Huarui and always enjoyed her great trust?”

Mother Li respectfully replied, “Young Master is very well informed!”

Cui Zi Xuan squinted at the distance, thinking of Jiang Mi, who hadn’t arrived yet. He slowed his voice, speaking gently and affectionately, “Lady Huarui was incredibly charming and was once known as the most beautiful woman in the world… I think Ah’Mi is not much less beautiful than her mother. If she could also possess her mother’s charm, how lovable she would be!” Cui Zi Xuan’s words were practically a direct address to Mother Li, “I’m extremely satisfied with how you taught Princess Yihua her seductive charm recently, and I’ve always held deep expectations for it…”

Mother Li beamed with joy. She thought to herself, “I knew it! How can Princess Yihua capture a peerless beauty like Shu State’s Young Master Cui without learning some tricks?” Then she thought, “Princess Yihua and her mother look so different, yet in Young Master Cui’s eyes, they’re equally beautiful. That’s beauty in the eye of the beholder! I need to strengthen Princess Yihua’s training in this area, striving to make Young Master Cui even more infatuated with her and more willing to protect her.”

If Jiang Mi had known that Cui Zi Xuan had instigated so much in such a short time, she certainly wouldn’t have deliberately delayed. Unfortunately, she didn’t know…

Jiang Mi delayed for a long time before finally appearing before Cui Zi Xuan.

Today, Cui Zi Xuan was dressed in black and red, looking exceptionally noble.

Jiang Mi actually believed Jiang Wu’s words. Long ago, she had learned from books that in this world, justice resided in the hands of those in power! The fact that things had unfolded so favorably for her meant that Cui Zi Xuan must have played a significant role.

Therefore, Jiang Mi came with a heart full of gratitude. To express the solemnity of her gratitude, Jiang Mi had specially changed into a light blue dress today.

Just as Jiang Mi approached Cui Zi Xuan, gave him a graceful curtsy, and softly called out, “Young Master Cui,” Cui Zi Xuan merely glanced at her before turning to Mother Li. He said in a very gentle and kind voice, “Ma, actually, I love seeing girls in purple; well, pink or light green would be acceptable too…”

As soon as Cui Zi Xuan finished speaking, Mother Li raised her voice and addressed the maid behind Jiang Mi, instructing, “Did you hear me? Young Master Cui likes purple, pink, and light green. Pass the word down: make ten sets of clothes for the Princess in each of the four seasons, using only these three colors!”

    Jiang Mi: …

Jiang Mi took a deep breath, because she needed this gesture to make her expression less unpleasant!

Cui Zi Xuan, walking leisurely with his hands behind his back, glanced at Jiang Mi’s strained expression, and the corners of his lips curled up again. Walking slowly into the lakeside corridor, Cui Zi Xuan spoke again in a deep, resonant voice, “This corridor is made of wood, and it’s hollow underneath, isn’t it? I’ve heard that King Wu of Zhou built an echo bridge, where Lady Xi would often walk barefoot. Her beautiful feet, gracefully moving back and forth, produced sounds like the finest music in the world. Mother Li, I wonder how Lady Huarui of yesteryear fared in her dancing?”

For Mother Li, who desperately wanted Jiang Mi to please Cui Zi Xuan, the thing she hated most was not knowing his hobbies. So, upon hearing Cui Zi Xuan’s words, Mother Li immediately chimed in, “Young Master Cui, you may not know, but my Princess is also a skilled dancer.”

Jiang Mi was indeed a talented dancer. As one of Lady Huarui’s greatest strengths, dance was an intensive training program that the Three Mothers had focused on since their first meeting with Jiang Mi. Coupled with her excellent physical condition, Jiang Mi’s dancing was truly remarkable.

Hearing Mother Li’s words, Cui Zi Xuan grinned, his white teeth gleaming. He glanced at Jiang Mi, suppressing the urge to burst out laughing and twitching the corner of his mouth, and gently sang, “Graceful as a startled swan, lithe as a swimming dragon? If one day I could see Ah’Mi perform a barefoot dance for me in this corridor, it would be worth it all.”

Actually, he didn’t need to be so explicit. Ever since he mentioned the corridor’s unique features, Mother Li had been itching to grab Jiang Mi and make her dance for Shu State’s Young Master Cui immediately.

So, Mother Li, her eyes bright and eager, was incredibly anxious about Jiang Mi, who was following behind blankly, not using any of the seductive skills she had recently taught her…

Cui Zi Xuan looked down, his gaze falling on Jiang Mi’s tightly clenched fists at her sides. His smile softened, and he coughed lightly, pointing ahead, saying, “Hey, that stone in the lake resembles a hand… I’ve heard that Zhao Feiyan, the beloved concubine of Emperor Wu of Han, was skilled at performing the palm dance…”

    …I can’t let him continue!

Jiang Mi clenched her little fists, her chubby cheeks puffed out, and thought seriously, “If he keeps going, I’ll kill this guy!”
