Chapter 39: One Sword From A Sword Immortal Could Transcend Eternity

Lei Wujie stared blankly at his senior riding the crane towards the west and couldn’t help feeling fascinated in his heart. “Now that’s a true martial expert.” But this was a fortunate turn of events. Despite the senior’s eccentric personality, he did allow Lei Wujie to pass the fifteenth floor, and he could go straight up to the sixteenth floor now. He inhaled a deep breath and walked forward. However, the sixteenth floor was also empty.

There was nobody there. Obviously nobody.

Lei Wujie did not bother to wait around this time. He simply jumped through the roof and stepped onto the roof of the Tower of Ascension and yelled at the top of his voice, “Lei Wujie, disciple of Lei Hong from Lei Clan Fort. I hereby challenge my sword against Snow Moon City!”

“I beg an audience with Snow Moon Sword Immortal, Li Hanyi!”

Challenge his sword against Snow Moon City? Seek an audience with Li Hanyi?

“He’s crazy,” Sikong Qianluo whispered under her breath.

Snow Moon Sword Immortal, Li Hanyi, was one of the five sword immortals in the world. Ever since he began using a sword, he had never been defeated. That also included three duels against the citymaster of Unrivaled City Under Heaven. Even if Lei Wujie was a disciple of the Lei Clan, even if he was the true successor of Lei Hong.

What requisite did he possess to challenge his sword against a sword immortal?

    ~~☆~~

Tang Lian and Xiao Se already knew his plans, so they were not surprised. Still, they could both feel an inexplicable sense of apprehension in that moment.

By themselves, just the three words, Li Hanyi, was enough to strike terror into the heart. Amongst the three citymasters of Snow Moon City, Sikong Changfeng was honored as the one and only Spear Immortal under Heaven, but his personality and handling of affairs were always easy-going and relaxed. He never put on airs and was the only one among the three city masters who could be considered close to the disciples. He was also the only citymaster who actually managed Snow Moon City. On the other hand, First Citymaster Baili Dongjun was like a divine dragon. You could catch a glimpse of his head but not see his tail. Even Tang Lian had only seen him a few times, and each time, he would simply leave a few words of wisdom as his teachings. Sometimes, it was even as simple as a letter. Most of the disciples believed the rumors that the First Citymaster actually wandered around all year and was never in Snow Moon City at all. As for the Second City Master, Li Hanyi, he had always lived in seclusion in a hut on Cangshan Mountain, where he trained his sword. He had never appeared in Snow Moon City, and everything about him was a mystery.

“What sort of person is Li Hanyi?” Xiao Se asked Tang Lian.

Tang Lian shook his head. “Don’t know.”

“What does he look like?” Xiao Se asked again.

Tang Lian shook his head again. “Don’t know.”

“Haven’t you met him?” Xiao Shou asked in confusion.

“I have met Second Shizun a total of seven times, six of which I only heard his voice but didn’t actually see him. And the only time Second Shizun appeared, he wore a gray veil that hid his face.” Tang Lian shook his head. “And Second Shizun has never spoken to me, so I don’t really know him.”

Xiao Se turned his head and looked at Sikong Changfeng. “Senior Spear Immortal, I’m sure you must know.”

Sikong Changfeng tilted his head and said faintly, “He has a horrible temper! And this kid smashed the roof of the tower. Even if Hanyi doesn’t teach him a lesson, I’ll do it!”

After Lei Wuji’s passionate yell, there was no response for a long time. It was really a little awkward. He cleared his throat and shouted again, “Lei Wujie, disciple of Lei Hong from Lei Clan Fort, hereby challenges my sword against Snow Moon City!”

“I beg an audience with Snow Moon Sword Immortal, Li Hanyi!”

There was still no response. The wind at the roof of the tower was very strong, and Lei Wujie was starting to feel a little forsaken. He recalled the manner in which Lei Yunhe stood at the top of the tower, called the wind, and summoned thunder. He was as magnificent as an immortal. When he compared that spectacle to himself right now, he realized what a huge gap could exist between people.

Lei Wujie began his announcement again, “Lei Wujie…”

“Stop shouting. So noisy.” Lei Wujie felt a sudden flash of movement before his eyes, and a person in white clothes and wearing a gray veil suddenly appeared and stood in front of him. The person admonished testily, “Challenge your sword against Snow Moon City? On what basis? That Murderous Swine sword?”

“It’s the Murderous Dread sword…” Lei Wujie whispered.

“Scram!” The person swung the long sword in his hand, and half of the roof of the tower was lifted by the sword’s power.

“Li Hanyi, you asshole!” Sikong Changfeng yelled furiously, his heart breaking for his precious tower roof.

Lei Wujie was smacked down by that single sword and fell from the sixteenth floor.

So what if he could climb up to the sixteenth floor? Just like how the Spear Immortal used one spear move to knock down the beggar back then, this time, Li Hanyi also used one sword move to smack Lei Wujie down.

    ~~☆~~

But, as Lei Wujie fell past the thirteenth floor, he plunged his sword into the Tower of Ascension and dropped another three floors before he managed to stop his fall. He exerted all the qi in his body, and the Garuda phantom once again appeared behind him. He exerted his Blazing Arts straight into the Garuda Realm! He tipped his toes slightly and took a flying leap back onto the roof of the Tower of Ascension.

“Blazing Arts, Garuda Realm?” Li Hanyi held his sword in his hand and frowned slightly. “You dare bring out this travesty on display? For shame!” He swung his long sword again, and the entire roof of the tower was lifted off. Lei Wujie had yet to find a firm footing before he was falling again.

At the bottom of the tower, Sikong Changfeng turned away in grief and bitterness. He couldn’t bear to look further.

In contrast, the Snow Moon City elders all swarmed out and swept towards the Tower of Ascension.

Luo Mingxuan kept up with Luoxia Fairy as they both rushed towards the tower. He panted and gasped, “Shifu, why’s everyone in such a hurry?”

Yin Luoxia was looking at the figure in white standing at the top of the tower. She proclaimed solemnly, “To witness the sword of a sword immortal!”

Lei Wujie fell all the way to the bottom this time. The tower guardian of the first floor, Xie Yanshu, happened to be looking up to watch the duel when something flashed past his eyes and the suit of red clothes crashed in front of him. Xie Yanshu stepped forward, patted him on the shoulder, and asked doubtfully, “Are you dead?”

    Lei Wujie’s body twitched.

“Not dead yet?” Xie Yanshu knocked him again.

“Ow!” Lei Wujie jumped to his feet.

“Corpse… corpse spasm?” Xie Yanshu retreated three steps in fright.

By this time, Lei Wujie’s clothes were completely torn, and he was covered in dust from head to toe. He pulled out his Murderous Dread sword and readied himself to go up again. Suddenly, a voice nearby rang out.

“Li Fansong, disciple of Zhao Yuzhen of Qingcheng Mountain. I hereby pay my respects to Snow Moon City and challenge my sword against Snow Moon Sword Immortal, Li Hanyi!”

The peach wood sword that hung on the page boy’s back finally soared into the sky, and the scholar, Li Fansong, took a flying leap, grabbed the peach wood sword, and flew up towards the roof of the Tower of Ascension.

“Not bad. He certainly has Zhao Yuzhen’s style!” Sikong Changfeng exclaimed.

Lei Wujie turned around, his face flushed with indignance. “I’m the one challenging the tower. If you want to challenge the Sword Immortal, you should start from the first floor, ah.”

Li Fansong’s sword was like a rainbow piercing through the sun, its white light gleaming, giving off quite the air of an immortal. With one sword, he reached the one remaining inch of the roof of the tower. With one sword, he reached that one remaining inch where Sword Immortal Li Hanyi was standing, and he attacked!

“Worthless Swordplay?” Li Hanyi raised his eyebrows slightly.

“It’s Boundless Swordplay!” Li Fansong retorted angrily.

“Boundless for farts!” Li Hanyi’s long sword drew a large circle followed by a swift downward stroke. It was straightforward and simple, a very ordinary, very average blade technique from the Five Tiger Soul-Breaking Blade!

“Just a little brat. Why waste a sword move against you?” Li Hanyi taunted arrogantly.

Li Fansong felt a weight like a thousand jun coming down right on top of him. Rumors said that Snow Moon City’s Li Hanyi’s sword was quick and agile and was the epitome of elegance. “Elegance, my ass!” Li Fansong cursed furiously. His sword power was blocked, and in the end, he was also chopped down by one sword, and he fell through all sixteen floors, landing next to Lei Wujie.

Lei Wujie stared blankly at this highly skilled disciple of Qingcheng Mountain who basked in a mere moment of glory, and he hesitated a little before asking, “Brother, are you alright…?”

Li Fansong stood up, brushed off the dust on his body, and stated evenly, “Can’t beat him.”

Lei Wujie nodded fervently in agreement. “Can’t beat him.”

Li Fansong thought for a while and suggested, “How about we join forces?”

Lei Wujie had lost all trace of pride by now, and he nodded hurriedly, “Oh yes!”

“Lei Wujie, disciple of Lei Hong of Lei Clan Fort, hereby challenges my sword against Snow Moon City!”

“Li Fansong, disciple of Zhao Yuzhen of Qingcheng Mountain, also challenges my sword against Snow Moon City!”

A sword engraved with fire and a peach wood sword once again rose into the sky.

Li Hanyi looked at the two people who teamed up with little hesitation. He scoffed softly, and suddenly, he stabbed the sword in his hand into the tower and leaped into the air. His sleeves fluttered in a wild dance, and the two waves of sword auras dissipated through his sleeves.

Li Fansong vomited a mouthful of blood and, once again, fell towards the ground.

The Garuda phantom behind Lei Wujie ruptured again, and he, too, fell straight down.

Yin Luoxia was watching the battle from a distance, and she praised, “Good swordsmanship.”

Luo Mingxuan looked bewildered. “Second Citymaster clearly put his sword down. Was that even counted as a sword move?”

Yin Luoxia glanced at him and snorted coldly, “This child cannot be taught.”

Luo Mingxuan scratched his head. “That’s why I was beaten by him, huh?”

Tang Lian exclaimed in shock, “Not good!” Earlier, both Li Fansong and Lei Wujie were protected by their qi, so even though they fell sixteen floors, they only suffered some bruises and scratches. But now, both their qi had been broken by Li Hanyi’s sword aura. If they were to fall to the ground this time, they would undoubtedly fall to their deaths.

The page boy, Fei Xuan, took a step forward at this time. He waved his palm lightly and shouted, “Halt!”

The momentum of their fall suddenly decreased.

Fei Xuan lifted his palm gently and then shouted again, “Rise!”

The two of them started to rise again.

“Wonderful. Qingcheng Mountain’s Great Dragon and Elephant Strength! So, the real martial expert is down here,” Sikong Changfeng praised with admiration.

Fei Xuan wasn’t having an easy time, though. The sweat on his forehead was as large as beans as they fell, drop by drop.

“Can you still fight?” Li Fansong glanced at the pale Lei Wujie.

Lei Wujie tightened his grip on the Murderous Dread sword. “I have one more sword.”

Li Fansong nodded. “Perfect. I also have one more sword.”

“Wujie has one more sword. Beg the Sword Immortal to test it!” Lei Wujie shouted with all his remaining strength.

“Fansong also has one more sword. Beg the Sword Immortal to test it!” Li Fansong followed with his own declaration.

“Sword name, Raging Inferno Roaring Thunder!”

    “Sword name, Boundless Dipper!”

A beam of red light and a beam of purple light gradually intersected in midair. The sword auras surged and rolled up the clouds in the sky. Li Hanyi frowned slightly, and his white robes fluttered wildly in the wind. The Tower of Ascension swayed on its foundation, looking as if it was about to collapse.

“Now they are worthy of challenging their swords against the Sword Immortal.” Sikong Changfeng grinned.

Li Hanyi exhaled a sigh. “What awful names. Neither of your shifu have any talent in coming up with names. Sword, rise!”

The sword he had stabbed into the tower before flew back into his hand, and a white light glowed from the blade.

The name of this sword was Armored Glacier, ranked third among the top ten famous swords under Heaven!

Li Hanyi swung his long sword. “I also have a sword. The sword’s name is Moonlit Night and Flowering Dawn!”

This sword was very different from the sword moves Li Hanyi wielded before. This sword was supremely gorgeous. It was very gentle, very slow, like smoke rising into the air while within the smoke, tendrils of willow cast a jade-green shade. It was like flowers blooming at dawn, like the bright moon lighting up the night. It was so gentle that anyone looking at it would be captivated by intoxication.

This most beautiful and most dangerous sword move caused all the camellia within Snow Moon City to float upwards in an instant. Thousands and tens of thousands of petals surrounded Li Hanyi’s sword, and the sight was indescribably gorgeous.

“One sword from a Sword Immortal,” Sikong Changfeng admired openly.

“Could transcend eternity.” Yin Luoxia closed her eyes and inhaled the fragrance of flowers diffusing across the city.
