    Chapter 49: Naraka Defense Ward

Sikong Qianluo narrowed her eyes, and she jabbed her spear with the force of a thousand jun. She could feel the faint roar of thunder on the sword’s hilt, and she didn’t know what sort of power that sword would have if it left its sheath. So, the only thing she could do was to go all out with her own attack.

But Lei Wujie still pulled an empty! He exhausted all his strength and pulled at the sword hilt, but he stuttered and stared at the empty palm of his hand.

Actually, he had absolute confidence that he could draw his sword this time, but even though the sword blade and scabbard vibrated, they still didn’t have any intention to separate from each other. Lei Wujie froze for a second, and then he leapt high into the air. The Silver Moon spear slashed his shoulder, and blood flowed immediately.

    Everyone present was stunned.

Standing on the roof, Sikong Changfeng smiled slightly and said nothing.

On the other hand, Tang Lian’s frown deepened. “Lei Wujie, what are you doing?”

Xiao Se glanced at Lei Wujie; Lei Wujie touched the wound on his shoulder and looked back at Xiao Se with a bitter laugh, shaking his head.

“Can’t beat her,” Lei Wujie said softly.

Sikong Qianluo was still baffled, wondering why Lei Wujie would suddenly pull back his sword.

Right at that moment, Lei Wujie and Xiao Se came to the same conclusion, turned around, and fled!

One was the successor of the number one lightness skill under Heaven, Cloud Step. The other had some meridian or another unlocked by the monk, Wuxin, and now, his skill at running away was second to none. Within an instant, the two of them had skipped over ten steps and were escaping!

Sikong Qianluo came back to herself, grabbed her spear, and chased after them. “You two lumps of trash, where are you running off to!”

Lei Wujie huffed and sighed as he ran. “Xiao-xiong, what did you do to provoke such a powerful woman!”

“I provoked her?” Xiao Se rolled his eyes. “Who’d be so bored as to provoke a woman like that?”

Not far away, Sikong Qianluo heard him and yelled angrily, “Woman like what?”

Xiao Se jumped up and called out loudly, “Like the shameless woman who chases after men every day!”

“Xiao Se, you’re dead!” Sikong Qianluo snapped. She raised her spear and threw it with all her strength, but it didn’t fly far before it was intercepted. The spear fell to the ground with somebody’s foot stepping on it.

It was really an unreasonably powerful foot, which descended from the sky and stepped on the spear that was charged with power!

Of course, it was because this spear was imparted by him after all.

“The Silver Moon spear has revealed its true form, yet it couldn’t stop them from escaping. The spear has been wronged.” Spear Immortal Sikong Changfeng flicked his fingers lightly, and the spear seemed to respond to him, flying straight into his hand.

Sikong Qianluo pursed her lips with dissatisfaction. “Who said I didn’t stop them from escaping? That move would have caught them for sure.”

“Who are you kidding? You deliberately threw your spear off-target. Are you trying to lie to the Spear Immortal? My dear daughter, you’re really adorable.” Sikong Changfeng’s mouth curled with a knowing smile.

“Not just today. Over the past four days, the throw was off-target every day,” Tang Lian added, standing to one side.

Sikong Qianluo started to blush, her cheeks pinking. She stepped forward, dodged under the Silver Moon spear, and retorted hatefully, “Fine, I’m going to show you how my throw is not off-target! See how I’m going to get him today!”

“Him?” Sikong Changfeng raised his eyebrows.

“Them!” Sikong Qianluo kicked her father, sending him flying away.

Lei Wujie and Xiao Se didn’t stop running the entire time. When they realized they had managed to lose Sikong Qianluo, they finally breathed a sigh of relief. By then, Lei Wujie was bleeding profusely from his shoulder. Xiao Se took a quick look and said, “You need to bandage this as soon as possible.”

Lei Wujie nodded, and thought of tearing off a piece of cloth from his shirt but realized that his clothes had already been shredded by the Silver Moon spear. He couldn’t even find an intact piece to use. He glanced at Xiao Se, and Xiao Se understood his intention immediately. He retreated a step and objected, “This is Yunyan fine cotton!”

“Is it expensive?” Lei Wujie asked.

“No… well, I mean, it doesn’t absorb blood.” Xiao Se finally thought of an excuse.

The two had no choice but to walk into a nearby courtyard. Snow Moon City was built like that. There were large and small pavilions all about as well as many small courtyards. All sorts of people lived here. Some were consummate martial experts; some didn’t even know any martial arts. But not a single one was an ordinary person.

The two of them opened the door and found a very secluded courtyard. The courtyard was well-groomed with lush greenery, and a swing was tied between a rattan frame, swaying gently though no one was sitting on it. To the right of the yard was a small gazebo where a guqin had been placed on the table. Xiao Se walked towards it and brushed his fingers over the edge of the guqin. “It’s very clean. Someone must live in this house.”

Lei Wujie nodded and announced loudly, “We were presumptuous to intrude and beg the master of the house to grant a meeting.”

As soon as he said the words, the door of the house was pushed open and a slim lady dressed in a green dress walked out.

Written in the Classic of Poetry: her fingers were like the blades of the young white grass, her skin was like congealed ointment, her neck was like the tree grub, her teeth were like melon seeds, her forehead was cicada-like, and her eyebrows were like the silkworm moth. What dimples, as she artfully smiled. How lovely her eyes, with the black and white so well defined.

Also written in ancient songs: In the north there is a beauty, peerless and independent.

A glance from her will overthrow a city; another glance will overthrow a nation.

One would rather not know whether it will be a city or a nation that will be overthrown.

As it would be difficult to behold such a beauty again.

Lei Wujie was not as well read as Xiao Se, but at that moment, these lines ran through his mind like a revolving lantern. All the scenes that he thought would only appear in fictional novels were well and truly displayed in front of him now.

Xiao Se nudged Lei Wujie, who was staring blankly at the lady. Lei Wujie turned his head and blinked. “What?”

“Lei Wujie, you’re about to bleed to death,” Xiao Se remarked coldly.

Lei Wujie twisted around to look and suddenly felt faint.

The lady in green walked over. Without a word, she pulled out a long handkerchief slowly and pressed it against Lei Wujie’s shoulder. Her hands were skilled and confident, and in a short while, she had tied a secure bandage around the wound. Lei Wujie lowered his head to look at her and he was having difficulty breathing. He stammered out, “S-sorry for the trouble. This handkerchief…”

Xiao Se had sharp eyes, and he immediately noted, “It’s embroidered silk. This handkerchief costs about 80 taels.”

The lady in green heard his words and returned a small smile as she shook her head.

“What’s your name? Why do you live here?” Lei Wujie asked again.

The lady in green was about to answer, but she suddenly paled and covered her mouth as she coughed softly for a while.

    Lei Wujie frowned. “You’re sick.”

The lady in green nodded. Right at that moment, an angry shout came from not far away: “Xiao Se, Lei Wujie, where did you run off to!”

“Not good, she’s caught up! Let’s go.” Xiao Se came up and pulled Lei Wujie, ready to drag him along and continue running.

The lady in green grabbed Lei Wujie and shook her head gently.

The voice was getting closer and closer, and Xiao Se heard Sikong Qianluo’s steps at the entrance of the courtyard before she leaped into the air. She was about to land inside the courtyard.

The lady in green raised her hands gently and finally spoke, her voice soft and melodious. It was just two words, but the sound was extraordinary beyond comparison.

    “Naraka.”
